The contact had to place the vehicle in neutral in order to stop the surging and caused the contact to crash into a vehicle. The contact stated the failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 99,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.
I have been a licensed drive for 37 years. After merging my 2001 Ford Taurus onto an interstate highway, the vehicle continued to accelerate after I removed my foot from the gas pedal. I tapped the brakes to see if cruise control was on. It wasn't. I glanced at the gas pedal to see is something was on it. There wasn't. I tapped the gas pedal to see if it was stuck. It stayed depressed. I braked hard and the vehicle slowed to 60mph. I released the brake pedal and the car began accelerating again. To keep from rear-ending the car ahead of me, I downshifted and stood on the brake pedal. I pulled onto the road shoulder, shifted the transmission to neutral and was able to stop the car with brakes smoking. The engine continued to race. I turned off the car and had it towed to a Ford dealer. The service representative told me the plastic bracket that holds the throttle cable in place had broken and the cable had jammed in with the throttle open. The service department replaced the throttle cable assembly(yfiz*9A825 actuator asy). They kept the old part. I feel I was fortunate not to have caused an accident and been injured or killed. My teenagers also drive the vehicle and might not have been able to successfully stop the car as I did.

The contact stated that the cruise control was connected to the throttle and when he depressed the accelerator pedal, it would disconnect. The contact stated that when the accelerator pedal was released, it stuck. Furthermore, the cruise control would not deactivate unless the brake pedal was depressed because the on/off switch did not function. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer (repair information was not provided). The VIN was unavailable. I was driving on the freeway 15 South from temecula, ca. I exited mission/fallbrook and proceeded to go up the little incline and my accelerator stuck. I had to take on a curvy road for about 4 miles, until I could find a spot to pull over. I ended up running a red light, after running the light I put the car in neutral and hit my brakes. I finally come to a stop, right before running into the remax building. Someone needs to check into this problem. I did a google search, and found out this is not an isolated incident. I contacted Ford and file an incident report and was told this was the first time they heard of this problem. I told them to do a google search and the information is out there. I had my car towed to rancho Ford. Their diagnosis was the accelerator cord needed repairing. When I spoke to Ford I was asked what do I expect Ford to do for me? He then shifted the vehicle into neutral however, the engine rpms remained at 4000. The vehicle was not diagnosed and there were no prior warnings of the failure. The contact examined the vehicle and noticed that the acceleration cable had fractured from the throttle body. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileage was 121,000.

2001 Ford Taurus. Consumer states unintended acceleration the consumer stated on two different days, in different parking lots, the vehicle accelerated out of control and consequently, he hit a barrier which caused damage to the front of the vehicle both times.
Car wanted to accelerate when applying brakes. Had to put car into neutral and apply brakes to stop, engine RPM race for a few seconds. This is the third time I had this same car problem repaired. Dated June 18, 2010, lithia Ford dealer # 23. Had to replace maf senor, afls 154 reman sensor asy, reprogam PCM 5926 cf.

Car engine would not stop after applying brakes, car engine kept trying to go forward while I was pressing hard on the brakes at a stop light. Car engine would not stop, it would stop go, stop go, stop go, stop go while I was pressing hard on the car brakes had to change car lanes to avoid hitting the car in front of me almost ended up in the middle of the intersection. Had some close calls. This has happen before with this car, but not as bad. The engine light went on this time (never had a engine light before). I took the car to a car repair shop (meineke car care) and they ran their engine diagnostic tests and got a (error code P0171 and P0174) system too lean bank 1 and 2. there was air leaks in the air hose assy, replaced air tube assy, parts (yf1Z6758A and F6dz6758A), after that the car ran fine (for one day). I had a problem also with the car engine idle (rough idle), car engine would stop running at a stop light. (the car engine light went back on again). I took the car to a car repair shop (pepboys) and they ran car engine diagnostic ce scan and got (error code P0174 system too lean B1 and B2). They replaced PCV hose (elbow hose) that was leaking, (part yf1Z6A664ab PCV hose, lf 0019.5800 po 10332245.). after that the car engine is running good (so far). This may help in locating some of the problems with car engines trying to go forward while the drivers are applying the brakes. Need better air hoses that will not leak.
At a stop light, no crash, but almost. I was applying the brakes hard and the car engine did not want to stop. The engine kept trying to go forward, but my hard braking kept it from going forward. I had to change car lanes to prevent a crash. I had to keep my foot on the brake pressing hard. The car engine finally stop trying move forward.. this has happen before with this car several times with some close calls. This happens on and off for the past 2 years. My brakes are in good sharp. Maybe a sensor problem "?"
The throttle 'stuck' on a 2001 Ford Taurus while in motion ~45mph and in moderate traffic. Experienced driver used aggressive braking to control and stop vehicle without crashing and then turned ignition off to control engine. The speed control system was not in use. Found plastic 'tab' holding speed control cable to the accelerator cable bracket on throttle body damaged. This allowed outer sheathing of the speed control cable to separate and jam and hold throttle plate open. Removed and replaced speed control cable assembly with part number yf1Z-9A825-ca.
Ford Taurus 2001 cruise control poorly designed cruise cable caused the car to continue running at high speed. Cruise control was not engaged at the time of the problem showing up. I turned engine off. It could have been bad if some one else was driving. I have investigated the problem and can easily reproduce it. When depressing the accelerator pedal both the throttle cable and the cruise cable are moving together. But when the plastics on the end of the cruise cable gets old the two parts separate and the cable sleeve is getting stuck on the outside of the holding piece. The accelerator cable then cannot go bake into idle position. If the explanation is not clear I can add photos of the problem. Arie kryzewski
I own a 2001 Ford Taurus sel with 156K miles. I lose control of my vehicle during rush hour commute home. The car accelerated violently on its own as if the throttle was stuck. I nearly slammed into the car in front of me. The acceleration over powered the brakes. I shifted the car into neutral and the engine revved to the point I thought it would blow. I turned the car off and had to be pushed out of a dangerous/busy location. What scares me the most is that I shared this vehicle with a 16 year old daughter.

The vehicle caught fire and it was extinguished by the fire department. A report was filed. The vehicle and a grill were destroyed. The contact has pictures. I was driving my 2001 Ford Taurus and when I accelerated after pulling onto the highway from a parking lot, the car reached a speed somewhere between 50-60 mph and held that speed. The car is equipped with a cruise control, which I rarely use. I was not using it at the time. I applied the brakes, but the car held steady at the same speed. I drove approximately six miles in moderate traffic, damaging the brakes in the process, until I found an area where I could safely drive off the road without risk to myself or others. Eventually, the car slowed to the point at which I could angle into a slight embankment and stop. I had the car towed to the Ford dealership. They repaired the damage done to the brakes but kept the car for a week and still had some difficulty in identifying what caused the acceleration problem. They finally said that it had to do with the cruise control and disconnected it. The manager of the service department there commented that this was not a problem he'd encountered before. They also found that the car idled at an unacceptably high rate and had some difficulty resolving that problem. I paid for the repairs and have been driving the car for nearly two weeks. There is still a problem with acceleration in that it will hold a speed for nearly a half mile or so, although the brakes will stop it. The fact that the service people at the dealership were so perplexed by the problem and were unable to fully eliminate it leads me to wonder if it might not be the result of some kind of factory defect, although I can't find anything about a recall. The car is seven years old and has nearly 114,000 miles on it.
While depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated with high engine rev. It was necessary to turn off the ignition to eliminate the hazardous condition. Ford needs to address this recurring issue as reported by other owners. Previously, on 9/10/03, this vehicle was brought to the dealership for the same problem and supposedly repaired. This issue is not the result of depressing the brake and accelerator pedal simultaneously. The vehicle has been the subject of a recall concerning the lateral distance between the brake and accelerator pedals. This latter issue was addressed and resolved by the dealership. The accelerating issue is definitely an equipment failure. NHTSA needs to address this safety hazard now!
On November 6,2005 my 93 year old aunt (theresa fisher) was injured in a car crash involving unintended sudden acceleration. I am filing this complaint on her behalf since I hold durable power of attorney, and she is unable to file this herself. The vehicle was a 2001 Ford Taurus owned and operated by my 79 year old cousin, rose natale (her first accident in 52 years of driving). She was exiting a parking lot in brick NJ at 5 to 10 mph when the Taurus "took off like a rocket on its own". she was unable to stop the vehicle - hit a tree head on - airbags deployed - both occupants (wearing seat belts) were injured. Police and ambulance arrived on scene - driver and passenger transported to hospital - police report on file in brick, New Jersey. This happened twice, and she was afraid that this was going to cause a crash because the first time vehicle hit some barriers but there was no crash. Was reported the insurance company. Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration when driver had foot on brake pedal. Took vehicle to dealer twice for check up, but the cause was undetermined.
