Taurus Limited 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

my car is ford Taurus AWD 2013

I have been taking my car to the dealer for the routine maintenance since day one. And I have been replacing the PTU( power transfer unit) oil regularly. I noticed a delay in the shift. at first, I thought it was the transmission. took it to the dealer and the PTU was damaged completely. ( they are saying because of the oil leaked and caused the damage) I don't believe this since I regularly checked the car for a leak, plus they didn't tell me during the routine maintenance that there is a sign of an oil leak.

to conclude, PTU and drivetrain oil doesn't need to be replaced at all, they last forever. if you change it, it will get damaged. believe me. don't believe anything the dealer telsl you.

Taurus SHO 3.5L V6 Ecoboost

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

I have had my 2013 Taurus SHO since 2013. Bought it new with 14 miles on it! A few weeks ago I started hearing a weird sound in the drive train. I thought it might be a wheel bearing. Took it in to the dealer yesterday (06/26/17) and found out it was the PTU. Why would Ford design a PTU not capable of enduring highway miles over 84000?!?! I never drove like a maniac, but drove mostly to work and church on the highway. There is NO scheduled maintenance to replace oil to prevent wear! What a terrible thing to do. Unless Ford corrects this problem, I seriously have lost respect for their product. $2000 out of pocket is stupid.

Taurus SEL 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 64,750 miles

My Taurus has AWD and the transfer case is a critical component of the drivetrain. Mine failed completely at 64,750 miles - less than 5,000 miles beyond the 60,000 mile Powertrain Warranty. This was a complete/catastrophic failure. I asked Ford Customer Service for help with the bill and they flat out said "no". The repair was $1,600. the only fix was to replace the entire unit as it cannot be repaired. One dealer has told me that this part has a higher than expected failure rate. I am trying to gather some numbers to take back to Ford.
