I have 2 problems with the brakes, problem 1 the master cylinder is leaking, causing the brake light to come on. Problem 2 the ABS light will come on when driving, it turns itself on and off. Power train, the O/D light will flash when starting up, will turn off after a couple of minutes.
Both the ABS and brakes lights came on. Just during this last month, the brakes have gone from being fine to almost not stopping the van. I am now scrambling to get them fixed. This came on very suddenly.
ABS light turn on and off while driving. Most of the time when I started the car the ABS light is off, but after driving may be 10 to 15 miles, the ABS light will turn on and stay on until I turn off the engine. Sometimes ABS light is on after I start the car. When I took it to mechanic, the light is off, and he couldn't find the problem. It is so frustrated.

ABS light comes on intermittently, not sure if they work after this. I have had it to the repair shop repeatedly to have the brakes and sensors inspected. This vehicle also leaks from the speed control module, instrument cluster dies, air conditioning fails due to control module shorts, fuses blow, suspension and rot issues.
The ABS light began coming on intermittently for no known reason; gradually it has been on more. In recent weeks, have also begun having problems with the speed control working only intermittently, and last week the speedometer stopped working incorrectly; the highest speed it registers is 28-29 mph, even though I know I'm going faster. The windshield wipers now suddenly work only on low or, if turned up to the highest possible setting, they go half speed. Two weeks ago a brake set up for no known reason, to the point that I smelled 'burning.' I stopped to investigate when traffic allowed and could see nothing wrong. I drove to a hospital where son was working and he investigated and found the frozen-up brake. He was able to eventually get it freed up. A vehicle that once was a very dependable workhorse has suddenly become erratic and downright scary.
ABS light went on after getting wet due to rain on the pavement. Apparently has shorted out something. From what I've read, this is a common problem. Also, the dash light representing a turn signal burn out went on, but the turn signals are all functioning properly.
The antilock braking system is intermittent, and sometimes the light will come on for no particular reason. This sometimes happens while driving. It will do this on and off, after shutting the car down, and restarting it, or sometimes during driving.
The ABS brake light comes on and off all of the time. When I have it serviced, the dealer says not to worry about it, so I don't. but the light is continuously on now and due for inspection. The module that controls the ABS system cost over $900 for the part and then labor. About $1300 for the job. I have a Chevy S-10 pick-up truck that has the same problem except the dealer says it trash in the system. Seems that the american made auto manufacturers would offer something for these problems when the L defective items are installed in a auto. Is there any actions I can take or the dealers to correct these defective manufacturer problems.
ABS light is on intermittent..../ /other warning lights and sensors also go on and off alot ! / /also A/C and suspension have similar issues to previous recalls..../ /mileage now July 2012 - is approx 73,400/
The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact sated that the anti-lock brakes would constantly activate. In addition, when the engine was turned on the lights would illuminate. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 100,000 and the current mileage was 128,000.
Beginning in 2002 the ABS light appeared & after several trips to Ford and Napa mechanics, diagnosis was never determined. Then the recall of 2009 to replace the malfunctioned part occurred on 12/9/2009 - the very next day (Dec 10, 2009) the ABS light again appeared. I contacted the dealership where the recall work was done and they told me to bring the van back and they would 'diagnose' the problem for $120. May 2012 we replaced the affected ABS part with our own finances because the Ford dealership told us that the affected part was no longer under recall and was not their problem. It solved the ABS light from coming on for about a week. To this date the light comes on. We purchased this vehicle based on the reports that it was an excellent family vehicle for safety. I would consider braking an important feature, too. Please have Ford resolve this matter immediately and not just ignore the matter. I have less than 85,000 miles on the van so it is not due to overuse or neglect. And the vehicle has never been driven in snowy conditions, is parked in a garage when not in use and all maintenance is kept current. Please get this issue resolved correctly. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
ABS warning light came on and remained on. Was told by mechanic that it was a bad sensor on the left front brake and that the brakes operated correctly.
