Acadia SLT AWD V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

For two years I had to deal with no steering on my vehicle because I did not have the $1800 to give the GM Dealership, I purchased the vehicle from, to fix the problem. They initially said it was a broken steering gear, which 2 years later I found out was not the case. In 2016 I took it to another GM Dealership & they told me GM did an extended warranty on the power steering for the Acadia model, they to increased the warranty on the power steering to be replaced at 150,000 miles or less; that notice was just in time because I had 149,200 miles on the vehicle.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 112,000 miles

Driving home in a snow storm and all of the sudden the power steering stops working as I am trying to take a turn. Went off the road into a ditch!!! Now that I am looking around for possible causes I am seeing many many many other people having the same issue!!! Guess we should have done a little more research before spending $20,000 on a vehicle with so many issues!!!!

After the car was replaced with a OEM transmission at a local shop, I found the power steering didn't work at low speed. The shop said they didn't do anything on the steering when they replaced the transmission, and suggest me take it dealer. I did so and the dealer diagnosis reports as:

1) Replace power steering pump under special coverage (vehicle is not low on fluid at this time, pump not responding, and found power steering gear leaking also) -- covered by GM's special extended warranty. 2) PSF-complete power steering fluid exchange -- $129.95 3) Replace steering gear, bleed hydraulic system and flush system with dexron vi(vehicle is not low on fluid at this time, pump not responding, and found power steering gear leaking also) -- $1367.66 4) 4 wheel alignment (front end will be off after rack replace) -- $139.95

After a bargain, I had above 4 items done at $1200. So far, in the past two month, I had spent over $5000 for this 2007 Acadia with only 48500 mile.

I have owned my 2007 GMC Acadia for 5 years. I have taken it to the dealer 2x due to the power steering whine. Both times they acted like I was being petty and they said they bled the system. The whining has been getting bad again, but I am in a new state and haven't been to a dealership in WA yet. But yesterday my power steering went completely out. I was in my own driveway luckily, so there wasn't a car wreck, but I did graze the support post of our portico because the steering totally locked up. Since I can't drive the car, we had a mobile mechanic come out. Fluid level is fine, but he informed us that the problem is widespread for GMCs and that the power steering pump, rack and pinion pump/rack and accessory parts will need to be replaced along with the Dexron IV fluid they are now recommending. My vehicle is 103K and my extended warranty just ran out. UGH! Have an appointment now with dealership on Monday, but they told me that GMC won't cover it. Why hasn't there been a recall when the problem seems so widespread?!

Acadia SLT V6

  • Automatic transmission

I was told I needed a new power steering rack etc. by the dealership. I then took it to a mechanic to do it that was a little less. When I picked it up it still had the issue and he said I needed a pump now. I took it back to the dealership and had them put a pump on it. So after all that who knows if I really needed a rack which was the more expensive problem. oh and then they knocked the traction control or something and I had to have that fixed! which another $100.

I HATE this car!
