I have replaced the starter on this truck and am still having a problem. The only thing I can suspect is that the starter has moisture in there and is freezing when the temperature dips. Is there a way to prevent this from happening again and how can I get rid of the moisture?

Sierra 1500 V6

My vehicle all of a sudden does not start up...THOUGH not initially when I come out in the morning to go to work...but say I go out for lunch, when I get to where I am going, go in and eat, come out and start my vehicle...it will not start. So basically after the vehicle has already done the initial start in the morning...all other starts are drama filled!

I stopped for gas one morning on my way to work and was stuck at the pump when I went to start the vehicle back...I have been stranded at stores and at a friends house. This is a really strange issue.

I have taken it to my local mechanic who kept my vehicle for over a month, puzzled at what the issue is. He change the battery, checked the starter, the ignition switch...nothing worked. This vehicle will not start after you have driven it any distance and turn it off...no matter the distance. We tested it just to the end of the driveway and turned it off and attempted to restart...nothing!

I also need to mention that there is clearly an electrical issue since my lights inside the car always flicker and sometimes just go out all together. My CD and tape player no longer work and the temp and direction that used to be on my rear view mirror no longer are there. We have changed fuses and they just blow right back out. Also, the whole dash went out, speedometer and all the gauges...those were replaced while the mechanic had my vehicle for over a month and they are working fine now...just the lights and the stereo parts are not functioning...the CD has not worked for YEARS!...but the tape is something new.

This vehicle is a mystery as to what is wrong. The next step is to take it to the dealership which I am sure will be an arm and a leg!

I really do not want to get a new vehicle as I can not afford a car note...so I really need this fixed.

My 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 had the passlock problem like everyone else has. It would not start, you never knew when this would happen. I would have to waite the ten to twenty minutes and it would start. I sprayed the key switch full of WD-40 until it was dripping everywhere and turned the switch on and off a bunch of times and then sprayed more in. That has been three or four weeks ago and it has never failed to start since. I guess it just needed a good cleaning.

Thanks

Paul
