The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65-70 MPH, the engine seized and made an abnormal sound, nearly causing a semi-truck to jackknife and crash into the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was left stranded in the west desert of Utah, where a wildfire had started, and the contact did not have phone service. Additionally, the vehicle stopped on a two-lane road with heavy semi-truck traffic, leaving the contact frightened and terrified for her safety. The contact jumped out of the vehicle. Migrants who were tending the sheep nearby assisted the contact in pushing the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with engine failure, and the dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: EA25007 (ENGINE, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was misinformed that the model year was not included in the NHTSA investigation. The contact informed the manufacturer that she no longer felt safe driving the vehicle, regardless of the engine replacement, and the contact advised the manufacturer to guarantee that the failure would not recur after the engine replacement. The manufacturer then referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance in investigating the safety issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 122,187.

The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the engine had seized. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

  • 40,000 miles
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 MPH, the rear wheels locked up. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the brakes needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Walker Bros Chevrolet (700 Erie St, Edinboro, PA 16412); for a second opinion, and the transmission and TCM were replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to the Customer Satisfaction Program: N192272400; however, the VIN was not included. The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 MPH, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle lost automotive power and stalled. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated when the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle, and the vehicle was towed to the residence. The contact became aware that the 400 AMP fuse was blown. The contact replaced the fuse and replaced the starter, however during a test drive, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken back to the residence, and a 400-AMP fuse was replaced a second time. The contact also replaced the starter, the alternator and replaced the ground cables, and during another test drive, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken back to the residence and the contact determined that the engine had seized. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 159,000.

Lifter failure cylinder #8, this is a 2019 GMC Sierra Denali 4x4. It has a 6.2L engine. With 92823 miles on it. It would be nice if GM would do a recall on this year motor as well.

I have a 2019 GMC AT4 and it has stalled on the highway multiple times and smokes every time I started. I have read that the engine in it has been recalled on multiple other years but the one I purchased needs a $25,000 repair and it-??s not safe to drive. There is not a current recall, but I-??ve read that this engine on almost all the other trucks and SUVs that have it have had problems.

I had left work and pulled out of the parking lot to head towards the freeway. I had driven about 3 blocks and the truck made an indicator alert noise. My dash panel said reduced power mode or something to that effect. The truck felt as if it lost power. Luckily I was able to pull to the side of the road at which point I put it into park and shut it off. I waited a moment and then tried to restart it. The dash panel said something but it was too fast for me to read before it went away. The engine was cranking but it did not restart. I tried several more times before calling roadside assistance to have it towed to a nearby dealership. The dealership said that I would need to replace the engine $18,751.92. They said the Camshaft RPM are 0 while the crankshaft RPM is 2-300. Lifters and Rockers are not moving. The chain is most likely broke as well. The fuel pressure is about 30 psi in the high side. It would be just as expensive if not more to try and repair the existing engine if it is even repairable which they wouldn't know until they took it apart at which point I would have to pay for that as well even if it was not salvageable. They would need to replace the oil lines and cooler as well because debris from the engine could be in them and would do more damage if not replaced. I had already replaced the oil lines and cooler within the last 6 months. The truck has 114,000 miles. My warranty still had 3 months on it but the mileage stopped at 100,000 so I am out of luck. When I researched online to see what it could be I saw there are known problems with this 6.2 L87 engine and that many fail around 100,000 miles. There are other recalls but the 2019 was not included in the recall. If I choose to have the work done it will take several weeks in which I will now have to rent a car as well. Not much of a choice when I still owe $30,000 and they only offered me $9,000 for it as is with the bad engine.

While accelerating from a stop, the oil pressure warning illuminated. The driver immediately pulled over within approximately 0.15 miles and shut the engine off. Oil was actively leaking from the vehicle. The truck was towed and diagnosed with oil cooler line separation at the crimp fitting, resulting in rapid oil loss and catastrophic engine failure. Sudden oil loss while driving creates a safety hazard. This failure appears consistent with known issues involving oil cooler line assemblies on similar vehicles.

I was driving my vehicle on the highway doing normal highway speed, when I began to hear an odd noise coming from the engine area. I slowed down and moved into the slow lane at which time the noise became worse. The vehicle then lost power and I wasn-??t able to get the vehicle to do over 40mph. I was able to exit the highway and limp my vehicle home. I had the vehicle towed to a GMC dealership the following morning. After about ten days, I was contacted by the dealer and was advised that I had an engine failure and that my vehicle required a new engine.
