My vehicle started rough with rattling and knocking one morning. I contacted my dealer and made an appointment. I received an appointment for about a week out and did not operate the vehicle until that day. Upon bringing the vehicle to the GMC maintenance shop, the vehicle-??s engine ceased and had to be towed the remainder of the trip.
My motor seized and shut off while driving 63 mph on a busy highway going up hill. Truck made it to the top of the hill before it shut off and had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. No warning lights or anything. Rpms locked at 3000 and wouldn-??t go up or down until the motor shut off. Switched itself to neutral while it was rolling still and wouldn-??t allow my to put the truck in park when stopped. Finally locked itself in park and wouldn-??t allow to be shifted to neutral. Dealership said the motor seized and ordered a new one but is on back order
On the morning of March 12, 2025, I started experiencing a ticking sound from the engine bay under throttle. I suspected lifter failure and decided to proceed to the dealership that afternoon for repairs. During my commute, the engine started squealing and shuddering and I experienced a severe loss of acceleration which made it almost unsafe to drive on the highway. Upon coming to a stop in traffic, the engine died. I was able to get it restarted and proceeded to continue my trek to the dealership. Upon another traffic stop, the engine died again, at which point I made the decision to exit the highway and continue my journey along the service road. Twice more the engine died when coming to a stop and the 4th time it struggled to restart. I finally decided to pull into a parking lot and as I was backing into a parking space, the engine died its final time and would not crank/turn over. To make matters more difficult, the transmission would not even shift out of "PARK" into "NEUTRAL" for it to be laoded onto a tow truck. Each time I tried to shift out of "PARK" I received a message stating "Conditions for shift not met"
While driving on a 55 mp road [XXX] the truck just stopped running. I had just turned from [XXX] onto [XXX] and had not gotten up to speed. I was only traveling at about 25 mph when the truck seized and stopped. No power to control vehicle. No power and no warning prior to no power. Only 18k miles on the truck and it died and wouldn't restart. It sat in the middle of the road and stayed in the middle of the road for an hour waiting on a tow. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Truck just made a year old and killed on me in the middle of road. They are saying I need a new engine and maybe transmission. Could not shift truck into neutral, which left me stranded on busy road. For unsafe and had me nervous. Trying to get GMC to buy me out of this vehicle. Had same problem with 6.2 liter prior to this truck. Engine and transmission was replaced. They promised if I bought new truck, I wouldn-??t have the issues and here I am again. This is terrible.

Engine locked up while driving. I was able to get off the highway. Truck would not crank back up. When trying to start it screens would light up then go black. I had truck towed to nearest GM dealership. The GM dealership informed me that the engine was locked up.
Driving on the highway vehicle installed out in the middle of the road lucky I had enough speed to rush to the median. I heard noise coming from the engine while I was coasting off the median on the median. Try to turn on the vehicle no luck.
The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving on a main road at 65 MPH, the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact coasted to a stop in the shoulder lane and allowed the vehicle to sit for several minutes before attempting to restart the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 23,000.
Was driving approx 70 MPH when the truck lost power and put itself into neutral. Had to pull over on busy [XXX] in Missoula at 15deg F. Truck display said "restart vehicle". Once pulled over, truck put itself into PARK. Truck would not restart after multiple attempts. Was towed to dealer where they stated the engine may have seized. Engine failed at 10,000 miles while driving down the road. No warnings, engine shut off while driving. I pulled over and contacted OnStar. They got me a tow truck to bring the truck back to the dealer the next day. I was told that I needed a new engine and they don-??t know when they-??re gonna get one in. It could be months. I had to pay for a Rent-A-Car out of my own pocket. The dealer would not cover the cost.
I am beyond frustrated with my newly purchased 2024 GMC Sierra Elevation 1500 5.3l V8. Back in November I was notified to bring my vehicle back to the dealership for a complete engine replacement. Ever since this time I have had continuous problems with the vehicle. One day after receiving my truck back, I noticed that it was running rough and misfiring. When I opened the hood, I observed a bungy cord still attached to the engine. Several weeks after, the check engine light came on and took a week to get back due to sensor issues with engine. Today, after getting off work, I turned on my truck, but I am unable to shift out of park and I am stuck waiting on a tow truck. There has been nothing but issues with this truck since they replaced the engine. I am not sure if the mechanics at Garlyn Shelton GMC in Temple, Texas, are qualified to replace engines. This is a brand new truck and I should not be having these issues. My fear is that these problems are going to continue because they either did not properly install the new engine or there are still defects.
Since owning my truck new, the vehicle has had numerous issues with loose exhaust and engine components. The truck has had loose catalytic converter bolts, heat shield and exhaust components causing severe vibration in the driveline, dash and floorboard. My son has the same truck 3.0 LZO other than his being a 2025, he has experienced the same issues.
6.2 ecotec GM engine failed, it is available for inspection at the dealership. The engine failed while driving with no shoulder to pull over. According to the dealership the main crankshaft bearings failed causing catastrophic failure. The dealership has confirmed and reported to GM on 1/24/25. There was no warning to the failure. I was driving approximately 40mph and lost complete power with no warning whatsoever.
was driving on the highway at 55mph and the engine just quit running and thankfully no one was near me and I was able to pull over on the side of the road. All the dash lights stayed on but the truck would not restart, code on dash board said "Conditions not correct for shift" Had it towed to the dealer and they put a new battery in it, but it broke down again on the way home same as before. Now they are telling me I need a brand new engine.
1st time Complete failure on my 2024 engine without warning. As I was traveling on the interstate. All of sudden, I lost all power. Mt truck started slowing down on its own. It was very difficult getting out of the way of on coming traffic. Dealership replaced values. 2 months later. Again on the Interstate engine complete failure again. Now take it to dealership. This time I heard a ticking noise. Right after the ticking noise. Engine stop working. Same situation. Trying to get out of the way of traffic. I was stranded over 3 hours.
Truck with >15000 miles on it suddenly stops on highway (Dec 6, 2024). Engine won't start but all electrical components work, retractable steps, radio, bluetooth etc. When attempted to start, all electric went black and "push to start button again" came on display. Towed to dealer and after 3 days, advisor says it's not the battery but it might be something electrical. After six days I trade this truck in as they "don't" know what is wrong. After I trade they tell me that the truck needs a new engine but don't why. While taking my new 2025 truck in for a computer problem (500 miles) they tell me they found metal shavings in the oil. I find out two weeks later that there might be a problem with 877,710 6.2L engine with the same problem as mine. Sales says he doesn't know what problem is but he says he may be stuck with the truck for 30 days or more so I should trade.
