Well like the rest of us Civic owners the clear coat is flaking away been noticing this issue for over a year now, its gotten a lot worse, The roof is now flaking towards the rear window and the trunk lid is doing the same thing, no matter how many times you wash and wax the car, the clear coat is slowly coming off. I have owned other cars with higher miles that this one and never had this sort of issue before. Next year this car will be replaced anyways, ill think twice before buying another honda product again. Honda knows of this defect with the clear coat and the paint they used.

I bought my car brand new in 2004. Got ten years I lived in Westerville I always take care of my car. I always took my car to the local Roush Honda where I bought my car. Oil changes, all my mileage check ups. Today I have 79,795 thousand miles on my car. In 2014 my daughter notice my car was peeling right around the windows, I didn't think much of It. But today it just looks really bad.

I took it to my Roush dealership to see what was going on, and they said it was going to cost me 3 thousand dollars to get repainted. Never letting me know that it was a manufacturer problem. He also said, why put 3 thousand dollars in a paint job, better to buy a new car. So I took the car to shop in my neighborhood. He saw the car and he knew exactly what the problems was. He had seen the problem in Honda Civics. He told me about the gloss eating away the paint. I asked him about recalls, he said there were know recalls. To do a good job It would cost 5,000 dollars.

All my kids have new cars, there question to me is does Honda realize how bad this look. For Honda it's just really bad marketing.

First brought the paint/clear coat peeling problem to the local Honda dealership in August 2008. The paint peeling now affects about 75% of roof of my Civic and some of the front bumper. The problem continues to get worse with each passing day. The Honda dealership service manager told me that it was caused by either a car wash or an electronic buffer (used only once). I have seen many other Civics on the road with the same problem. Clearly there is an underlying manufacturer's quality issue that's not being acknowledged or addressed.
