The paint started fading on the roof when the car was only 5 years old. I found out that it was a problem with Civics of certain colors, so Honda had extended the warranty. I took the car to the dealer and they agreed to have the roof repainted, along with a couple parts of the front fender that I hadn't noticed. They did not offer a loaner car, so I was without a car for 2 weeks (thankfully I commute to work by train). A little over 2 years later, I noticed the paint on the trunk doing the same thing, so I contacted the dealer again. I was told that because it was over 7 years old now, they wouldn't repaint the car. I'm really pissed! The car looks like crap. If they had just repainted the entire car originally instead of just the roof and the fenders, I wouldn't be in this mess. Now I'm driving a car that looks much older than it is and it's just plain ugly and embarrassing. This is my third Honda Civic. I previously had an '89 and a '98. No paint problems at all with those. The car drives fine and gets good gas mileage, and it's only got 84k miles on it, but this car has put me off Hondas for good. My next car will be a Toyota.

Update from Mar 20, 2018: Rather than spend $2000 to repaint the bad sections of the car, I sold it to a college student and bought a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek. I LOVE this car! No more Hondas for me!

Purchased Honda Civic 2008 in Auto Nation Nissan on 3/20/14 painted was fine, a few month later clear coat started cracking and piling off on the hood, trunk, and sides. A few weeks ago found out there was a paint warranty extended for 7 years but unfortunately warranty was out for 2 month now. So Honda refuses to cover it due to the warranty been expired for 2 month and no one ever notified me about paint issues and warranty been still present on moment of purchasing the car. Looks like no one is responsible to let customer know about paint issues on their product. If Auto Nation would of said that there is paint warranty extended for 7 years 1) I would of probably never buy a car 2) I would not be stacked with 6K paint job and expired warranty. Horrible experience with Honda and Auto Nation Nissan dealership.

Brought my car in for the paint recall on the hood, fenders, roof, and trunk. Quarter panels and door show clear signs of the same problem; however, the dealership is only willing to pay 50% of the cost and Honda of America does not want to add this into the recall even though it is clearly part of the same problem. This is my 3rd ownership of a Honda vehicle and this is the only car that is showing signs of paint deformity. The quarter panels and doors and all parts of the car that show the same symptoms should be covered in the paint recall as well. Seems like Honda pulling a bait and switch by only covering certain parts and will force you into paying other problems of the paint. Very disappointed in Honda for not covering the rest of the cars paint issues.

my honda dealer did repaint the roof, trunk top, & hood at no charge per the recall. However on the passenger side of the car around front & back windows the paint is completing turning white and peeling. This area is much worse than the hood which they did paint! According to the rep in Torrance, the Honda engineers only okayed the paint recall on the areas they thought might be problematic. I guess mine was not supposed to be faulty on this area. My local dealer will not help unless I pay a portion of the repainting cost. I think Honda should put my car back to the normal condition without any cost to me. I also had to pay half the expense for a rental car for 5 days when the recall was done. The actual repainting Honda had done looks just fine, I just want the WHOLE car be brought up to a normal standards at no more cost to me. I don't know how they can pick & choose what they want to repaint. They should be responsible for all the paint failure.
