Civic EX Coupe 1.8L

  • Manual transmission
  • 75,000 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I have a 2009 Honda Civic EX Coupe 1.8L Manual transmission which I bought in 2012 used with about 32k miles. This car has been reliable for the most part. It wasn't until around 55k miles when I started to notice shuddering and vibration when going reverse. The shuddering also occurred when going over speed bumps around 5 mph. I looked online and found that there was a TSB for this issue related to the passenger side motor mount. After studying the TSB and its replacement instructions, I was able to obtain the tools and replace this motor mount myself.

I saw the cheaper aftermarket replacements that were all less than $100, but heard personally from a mechanic that I should get the OEM. I was able to get the OEM online, from a marketplace seller for roughly $225. I did not want to roll the dice with getting an aftermarket part and the holes not lining up or not being drilled to the correct size, as others have mentioned. I would rather have the OEM fit correctly the first time. I changed out the mount myself in about 3 hours using various socket extensions and a car jack to support the engine under the oil pan while changing out the mount. I bet if I had to replace the mount again I could do it in under an hour.

I also found that others that purchased the OEM engine mount did not have to deal with that issue again. And there were others who used the aftermarket cheap quality engine mounts which later failed within a couple months. With aftermarket engine mounts, I think they are hit or miss, so its up to you whether its worth your time to risk having to replace the mount again later.

Civic LX 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 88,000 miles

The car would shake all the time it was turned on, especially during idle. Wife drove it, so she complained all the time. It was the motor mounts. I went the cheap route and bought off Amazon. They didn't work properly, so had to pay again for Honda part.

I've owned tons of cars, and this was the first that ever needed mounts replaced.

Civic LX 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 88,000 miles

We bought this Civic the same week we bought a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The Civic has turned to be a pain to live with. All four of the motor mounts need to be changed. We bought after-market mounts, then were told that they were not going to be as good at the Honda mounts.

My wife drives it usually 90% of the time. I can't see how/why they (all four!!) would need to be replaced. We don't drive crazy. My Corolla is rolling along with 133,000 flawless miles. I would by another Corolla in a minute. Not so with the Civic.

Anyone else having motor mount issues?

Civic EX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

2009 Civic EX began to vibrate loudly in Park. Problem intensified when shifted into Reverse. Brought to Honda of Denville, NJ on 9/25/14 and specifically stated I believed it was a motor mount (I had this happen with a 2006 Civic at around 100K miles). Dealer took it on a test drive, said it was fine, lectured me about where I get my oil changed, and sent me on my way. Problem persisted, car was brought to Sussex Honda in Newton where they promptly identified the problem as motor mount failure. Covered under extended warranty, thankfully. However, car had less than 70,000 miles on it when the mount failed. Ridiculous. Same problem with the '06 but that didn't fail until around 100k miles. This is my 3rd and last Honda.

Civic EX 1.8L 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles

I started noticing a rumbling noise last week when car was cold in morning in reverse. It would quite down in drive but a slight vibration. Had Honda check it and they called saying right front motor mount. $476.00 plus tax.

I can buy the part from Amazon for under $50.00 and have my transmission guy replace it all for under two hundred. Why does Honda want to rip us off on repair of a bad mount that was probably faulty to start with. This is my 5th Honda and last.

THANKS HONDA for the headache.

Update from Oct 21, 2014: I ordered parts cost $265.00 labor 100. Will pick up car tomarrow.

Civic EX 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

Once again, only having my car several months, and i start to hear this noise coming from the engine. It was this awful rattling noise to where i could still hear it over the radio. So i took it to Firestone , and the mechanic stated that it was the front right motor mount, and then called me back to let me know that i had a second one that needed to be replaced. After all this work was done to it the noise was gone. I have had nothing but problems with my car since i purchased it.
