Purchased a 2016 Honda Civic LX 4-door sedan from John Eagle Honda in 2016. It was my first car out of college. Drove it for 7.5 years and only had 69,000 miles on it.
The check engine light came on abruptly in July of 2024. The local Honda dealership in Austin said they cannot source individual parts to repair a faulty sensor that had failed on the transmission, and that the total cost of replacing the transmission would cost me about $8,000 including labor.
I took it for a second opinion at a highly-rated independent transmission shop, and they said that Honda has made it impossible to source parts for transmissions anymore. My only option was to cough up the $8,000, or trade it in for a new vehicle.
I was incensed, as the extended warranty for transmissions only goes up to 60,000 miles. Honda said I also did not qualify for Goodwill Assistance. I traded in the car and purchased a new Mazda with a traditional gear CVT, as the whole experience turned me off from wanting a CVT or Honda vehicle for the rest of my life.
