Problem just occurred with no warning while on vacation. MPG has suffered since occurrence of problem. MPG was bad after software upgrade performed, in 2010, went from mid 40's MPG to high 30's MPG. Since IMA problem MPG has dropped to mid 30's. Honda says that without experiencing a failure, there is nothing they can do to address the MPG issue. The IMA, in my opinion, is not working properly.

Problem not acknowledged by Honda therefore refuse to fix it. Fix requires new battery. Battery cost 3000-5000.

Ever since software update to lengthen battery life, mileage has dropped signficantly. Before was averaging 43/44 mpg, now in summer 38/39, even without air around 40 tops. Plus battery still doesn't seem to be in sharing mode most of the time usually always below 50%.

We bought 2 Honda Civic Hybird's brand new and from the 1st day that we had them we never have gotten more than 35 MPG.... Took them to the dealer many times and they said that there was nothing wrong with them and that it was the way we were driving them... Not True. ... wrote a letter to the Honda Corp HQ and they also said that there was nothing that they could do... What a waste of money trying to save some money.

How do I count the ways? Brakes make a clunk sound when depressing them when going forwards and back and the auto brake sucks too, it comes on to early and surges if you let off of it a little!!! And the brakes smells like there HOT!!! Mileage of course, from 44mpg on fwy (at speeds around 70mph which was great)to around 38 - 40mpg and 34 in town. And just lately the idle is going down and up between 400 rpm to 700 rpm. My mom has driven it and say's when she throttles it sounds like moped!!

Civic Hybrid

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

We purcahsed a Civic Hybrid in April of 2008 and got great gas mileage for 14 months/25,000 miles (44-48 mpg). All of a sudden the mileage dropped (37-38 mpg) in July of 2009. We took it to the dealer where we bought it, they worked on it for 5 days, reprogrammed the car's computer, and told us to expect better gas mileage. It didn't help--we are still getting 38 mpg. Now the dealer as well as the national Honda helpline say there is nothing more they can do for us. Am I the only Civic Hybrid owner with this problem?
