Check engine light came on Friday July 31st, while on the interstate I lost acceleration power. It would only go 30 mph and not go above 2000 rpms with the gas pedal to the floor. Parked it all weekend until I could get it to the nearest mechanic. He did a complete inspection of the Santa Fe, taking off certain parts to diagnose the issue. When the oil filter was taken off, there were metal fragments in the oil filter. He then instructed me to not drive the car very far as the engine was getting ready to lock up.

I called the Hyundai recall center to see if my engine was under recall because I read that the year model and make for my car has been recalled but my vin isn't included in that recall. I have an appointment with the Hyundai dealership tomorrow morning for them to inspect the problem. I just bought the vehicle December 31st. Have put 21,000 miles on it which puts me just above my 20,000 mile warranty. Am I right in considering that my car should be considered under the recall??? No way a car engine should have to be replaced at 117,000 miles! Will update tomorrow.
