Vehicle sat in driveway for one week while on cruise. The day of return the sonata caught on fire without any person touching the car for one week. Brother who-??s house it was at was woken by neighbors at 7sm. Home had minor damage, but it could of been bad if it was in someone-??s garage. Fire started in engine and console. Fire department could not find out a reason. Car was totaled. Had to rent a car to get home that was 2 hours away. Never had an issue with this vehicle in the 12 years I owned it.

My car has always been kept in garage. About 2 years ago I advised my dealer that cracks were developing on my dashboard. I was concerned because it is over airbags. I was told I would be responsible for repairs. I see other consumers with same model having same problems. I been retired last 3 years and have driven my car less than 5 thousand miles, car is kept in garage and the crack has now spread to driver's side of dashboard! I hope a recall occurs for this problem before an accident happens. I should not be responsible for safety defects in car!

Airbag light will not turn off. I have taken the car to two dealerships and they have not been able to fix the problem. The OCS is defective. I have had the car for 10 years and no one ever sits in the passenger seat. I do put groceries on the seat at times. I believe the problem is the same as the tsb campaign that was put out for 2006 -2008 Sonata. The campaign number is 083. How can I find out if my 2009 Sonata was manufactured in 2008? when the vehicle was returned from the first dealer the seatbelt light was flashing.

The passenger side dashboard has two long cracks around or within the airbag area. Based on some google search, this appears to be a common problem in the Sonata. I have the single owner of this vehicle. There was major accident, and no front collision of this vehicle. The cracks apparently are due to poor rubber quality. The cracks have been noticed for roughly a week, though the exact date of its first appearnce is uncertain.

We believe our vehicle has a takata air bag system. It is a 2009 Hyundai Sonata that was built in 2008. In November 2018, cracks started to appear on the dashboard above the air bags. It has gotten progressively worse since. The air bag light has come on and is consistently staying on while driving the car. The book says to contact the dealer. All indications from information online state that this is a serious safety concern and must be addressed immediately. We feel concerned about driving it. It was purchased new on 09/10/2008. We believe that this car should have been listed in the recalls for the Hyundai Sonatas years 2007-2008 since it was built in 2008.

Takata recall the dashboard is serverly cracking over the air bag an across the dashboard. Started in July and getting worst. I never been in an accident the body of the car is in good condition for its age. Mileage is due to highway driving.( I do not know how the airbag is setup in dashboard but there two long crack about 10 TO12 inches apart from the windshield to the glove compartment and now another one about 8 inches coming from the side of that going across the dashboard.)

Dashboard is cracking and has been for a year and a half. My boyfriend's friend has the same car, same year and his is worse than mine. My concern is this is where airbag is located.

Dashboard cracking directly around air bag unit underneath dashboard on passenger side. This is a known issue to Hyundai, affecting numerous models and model years. Hyundai dealers refuse to classify it a safety defect, and have told me the dashboard replacement is the responsibility of the customer. Multiple Hyundai service technicians on the internet confirm what I suspect, that this is a manufacturer's defect and a safety issue. Cracks began appearing at about 68,000 miles, approximately November 2015, and are getting progressively worse. Car now has approximately 72,000 miles (July 2016).

The contact owned a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 65 mph, the contact lost control of the vehicle and struck the guardrail and median. The air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed. The passenger sustained a cut to the back of the head and two front teeth were loose that required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000. The VIN was not available.

Air bag light turned on the dash of the 2009 Hyundai Sonata. Called and reported to Hyundai (case # upon NHTSA request) and then took the vehicle to a Hyundai dealer. Vehicle has 26,456 miles on 12/23/2014. Dealer description of fault scanned for dtcs, B1322 and B1324 present and active in SRS system. Cleared codes and attempted wcs reset procedure via gds, reset failed and dtcs returned. Passenger seat bottom needs replaced per tsb 09-bd-007. Customer declined repairs at this time. Quoted $2,189, tax included. I paid $127.43 to diagnose the SRS system problem. The NHTSA has a campaign (recall # 08V161000) for the failure of occupant classification system (OCS) in the right front seat for 2006-2008 Hyundai Sonatas. This 2009 Hyundai Sonata was manufactured on 01/8/2008. These early manufactured 2009 Hyundai Sonatas should be included in NHTSA campaign (recall # 08V161000) since the same 2008 passenger seat bottom part was probably used in these vehicles. The failure of occupant classification system (OCS) in the right front seat is a safety issue that the NHTSA needs to address.

Air bag light on the display has come up and it won't go away. Took the vehicle to dealer and I was told that there is spring in the steering wheel worth $450 need to be replaced. Also I have been asked to replace passenger seat belt buckle assembly costing more than $350, to correct the airbag light. I read that an investigation is going on for 2008 Hyundai Sonata for the mentioned seat belt buckle. Please conduct an investigation into the mentioned air bag issue to find out if this is a widespread issue with the model and get the manufacturer to bear the cost.

The passenger air bag light continues to flash when there is no one in the seat. Took to the dealer and they said it is suppose to flash when first start up the car, but I let them know that it on the entire time I am driving. The dealer said they could not duplicate the issue. I took video of it so I can show them. It is on multiple days in a roll with nothing in the seat. I want to make sure it will work correctly when I do have someone sit in the seat.

My ESC and air bag malfunction lights are illuminated and my brakes mal-functions. Recall campaign 110 recalls the brake light switch on some of these cars but not on my year and model. I am suggesting that the recall may need to be expanded to include the 2009 Sonata since the switches seem to malfunction in that make/model/year as well.
