The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while her son was driving about 10 mph and approaching a stop light, the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle made a screeching noise. The driver perceived the smell of smoke and stopped the vehicle to jump out with his wife and his 8-year old daughter. With the help of a near by service attendant, the vehicle was pushed into the parking lot and was later towed to the contact's residence by the insurance company (geico). A police or fire report was not filed. Three days later, the contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20V121000 (fuel system, gasoline). The dealer was not called. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000.
