Front brake pads and rotors are prematurely wearing which has resulted in poor braking ability. When brakes are applied a very unusual noise occurs, and pedal at times goes to the floor.
Consumer had 2 accidents in vehicle due to brake failure. Both times, pedal went to floor and there was no brake action. First accident speed was 15-20 mph, second 30 mph. Under warranty, but since dealer could find no problem Chrysler refused to honor warranty. $ amount on vehicle was a combined $ $15000.
While driving at highway speed applied the brakes to slow down and vehicle started to pull to right into the other lane. This caused calipers to lock up. Finally took vehicle to dealer, again for the fourth time for this problem & had it repaired. After each repair problem would reappear.
On the recall notice for defects to the front brake it is worded as some 1996-1999 Jeep Cherokee and 1996-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have a sport and am having the same brake problems as my family member who has a Grand Cherokee.
Husband drove vehicle and noticed that the steering wheel was vibrating when brakes were applied. Contacted the dealer, dealer stated vehicle was not covered under warranty.
Vehicle experiencing problem with vibration whenever brakes are applied. Dealer notified, and turned front rotors. Problem stopped and reoccurred again at 3000 miles. Vehicle back at the dealer, and they are turning the rotors again. Problem apperea again, and dealer replaced the rotors.
Vehicle was involed in sudden acceleration while drivingon hwy at approximately 55 mph. As soon as driver lifted foot off brake pedal, vehicle suddenly took off out of control, hit a parked vehicle before stopping. Upon impact, both air bags failed to deploy. Dealer notified. Can NHTSA help in this matter.
Sunroof: In the full open position, between 30 & 50mph, with the side windows up, or partially open, a horriffic vibration is felt in the "cabin" which is irritating to the ears, vocal chords, is so bad, that the radio speakers seem like they are ready to break. Dealer refuses to arrange a meeting with Chrysler rep to discuss the problem, which I feel is attributed to a bad design, which Jeep is calling "wind buffeting" in the owners manual, indicating they know there is this problem. The starter failed, and rocking the vehicle to a better spot on the starter allowed it to start, but vehicle is still sluggish starting at times, seeming as though the batter is weak. Jeep will not replace starter until a total failure. Brakes.. bad vibration due to apparent warped rotors. These are being replaced on warranty without dispute, indicating that Chrysler knows there is a problem with the rotors. This vehicle seems to be the "lemon of the fleet" only giving a maximum of 14.5mpg, highway, and less in city only, and does not idle smooth.
When driving at 60 to 65 mph, the ABS light keeps coming on, and the consumer has to pull off the highway and try to get the ABS light to go off. The dealer fixed the ABS light, and the vehicle was serviced twice and they can't determine the problem.
