My Jeep Compass' transmission light pops up and check engine pops up after I have my car idled. This happens when I am waiting for someone with my car in park or when in a traffic jam and I haven't moved while on drive. The car automatically defaults to 3rd gear (my car is automatic but it denotes what gear its in) which makes taking off real slow and forces high revs during highway driving. When shifting from parking to reverse or to drive the whole vehicle jerks pretty violently. The lights only go away by not driving the car (in my case I turn the car on for a whole day). This makes the problem go away until the next time I'm idle. I've owned the car for 2 years and have had this happen about 5 times. When idling now, I turn off my car to avoid this problem, but when I forget this problem occurs again.
