Grand Cherokee Limited 5.2L

I was given my 1993 Grand Cherokee Limited, 5.2 liter by a friend, it only had 116k so I knew there was tons of life left in it. I was told it had a lot of electrical issues that it didn't want to run as well the trans was going out. Well being a mechanic and an Electronics Technician I knew this couldn't be too big of a deal for me to fix.

I got the schematics off the internet, a quick research to what has been posted on these problems. Found and unplugged the components that were blowing certain fuses, and bam, it started right up. The remote Sentry in the overhead console was shorting, the VIC (Vehicle Information Center) was shorting, and I didn't trust the Alarm, the Alarm module is behind and below to the left of the glovebox I unplugged and removed it, and I got the transmission rebuilt, 1 injector rebuilt, and it has been a fabulous vehicle since.

People give up on cars far too easy and most don't seem to know how to fix things, well if you spend a little time disconnect these components, use your keys not remotes and take this vehicle to where I personally like them better, back to kind of the old days and remove some of the stupid technology, they are great 4x4's.

I absolutely love my 1993 Grand Cherokee, recently bought a 2000 for my wife and I've read what ails those years, but hey I'll fix them when they arise as well. These Jeeps are great once you learn this stuff and since people give up on them so easily, they are everywhere for dirt cheap. I see so many I want to buy because they are easy fixes. Hope this helps someone.

Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0L Inline 6-H.O

  • Automatic transmission
  • 105,633 miles

When attempting the start the 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ) Limited, the vehicle fails to start. It will crank over and sound like it is starting, it will rev itself up to 2000rpm then just shutoff. Apparent Ignition or Engine Interlock preventing it from starting. I have serviced the door switches and this caused some improvement however was unable to completely rectify the problem.

Grand Cherokee Limited 4.0L 6cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 148,000 miles

When I start the car it turns over, but shuts off after a second or two. Occasionally I can get it going by locking and unlocking the door but its really a crap shoot. It seems to have the most trouble when the weather is cold or rainy. Usually with some luck it will start but only after a lot of locking and unlocking. Right now(05/16/07) however, it is sitting in front a friends house where no amount of locking or unlocking seems to make any difference. The only advice I've got was to use the remote unlock but I never had one to begin with. I'm positive it's the security system but I don't know what to do.
