The power in doors windows works off and on. There will be no point to lock your door and then you can't unlock the door. The windows sometimes roll down and times they don't. the lighting on the inside of the car comes off and on without being turned on. Happened on its own anytime the car is started and can't be turned off at times. The dash lights don't work sometimes blinkers work off and on any electrical in the inside of Jeep is messed up.

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact was driving 25 mph when the vehicle stalled with warning. The contact stated that when the failure occurred, he would have to wait for the computer to reboot in order to restart the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic for a diagnostic test. The test did not indicate any problems. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign I.D. number 04V112000 (electrical system:starter assembly) but the vehicle was not included in the recall and was outside of the recalled year models. The failure mileage was 104,000.

We have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. We bought this car from Florida in September of 2010. We had it here in NY for 2 days before the problems started. We lost all of our gauges, all of our warning lights come on, power windows dont work, power mirrors dont work, command center goes down, door locks work intermittently. Chrysler Jeep is very unhelpful. We have put thousands of dollars into this problem and have seen online that a lot of other people are having this same problem in the years 99-2005. It is giving us a P1686 code and no one seems to be able to figure out the problem.

I recently bought a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and having done hours of research I am having the same problem as many other Jeep owners. My alarm is faulty and often does not start, I have not been able to use vehicle in over a week. I have tried everything Jeep told me to do to override alarm, it does not work. I also have a "quack" in my door locks. I suspect I will need a new actuator. I don't understand how their is not a recall on any of these things, I have read literally hundreds of complaints about the anti-theft systems in these cars and it costs alot of time, money and frustration to fix. I will never buy another Jeep nor will I ever recommend a Jeep.

After the vehicle stalled it may or may not restart immediately. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing and the technicians were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

The HVAC system on our 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited has broken and is unable to direct air at the proper temperature to the proper places. The defect appears to be related to electronically controlled dampers in the ductwork that have failed. This prevents our defroster from working as effectively as it should and is also an irritant to the driver when it's 110 degrees outside in the Texas heat. Googling the problem identifies it as a common breakage and is related to the use of cheap plastic materials in the damper mechanism. I believe this should be covered as part of a manufacturers recall campaign.

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that when the vehicle was traveling at a rate of speed that exceeds 60 mph and the brakes were depressed, the vehicle would lose power or stall. When the vehicle stalled, the electrical system would illuminate and all of the components on the dashboard would fail. The contact would become trapped inside of the vehicle because the power door locks and windows would become inoperable. The VIN was not available at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was 119,000 and the current mileage was 121,000.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee.. I have the same as all other 2000 jgc owners are having. Been using coolant every few weeks needs to be topped off.. fan was replace due to recall. Had to replace fan control under headlight. Last year was overheating. Replaced water pump/ thermostat. Overheating again. Just replaced thermostat today. Did not fix the problem. Transmission has been shifting hard for the past year and a half. I replaced parts in transmission as suggested by dealer. But it did not fix problem..replaced radiator around may of 09 still having cooling problems. I replaced so many sensors that have failed that I cant remember them all. I still have 1 more year of payments on this vehicle.. its hard to make payments when I have been buying so many parts to try to keep this car running. Bad door seals, they are too small (short or shrinking) it lets water come in back passenger area. Always smells musty inside.. black mold in the rainy season. Taillight brake light on one only works part time. Replaced 3 door latches. Including one on rear hatch.

Have owned vehicle for 4 years now. Have had problems with the heat not working 3 times now and still have problems (spent over $1,000 in this alone) the wires connecting to the blow box get to hot and melt the plug & blow box. When it first starts you can wiggle the wires and it will work for a short period of time. Ultimately you must replace the plug & blow box. Last week I was pulled over getting off the express way and a guy stopped me and told me I had no tail lights or brake lights. Again this was another electrical problem. This was very dangerous as I could have been in a serious accident. The tail gate sticks and will not open.

Both tail light assemblies stopped working and was cited by a police officer. Replacement was ~$500. Rear lift gate lock actuator is broken, so cannot open lift gate. Right rear door lock will not allow opening from inside. Shift sensor/solenoid has gone bad twice leading to problems with shifting from gears (revs really high before shifting). Rotors are constantly becoming warped and brakes have to be readjusted. Left blinker no longer works and to fix it, the dealership told me they have to replace this entire engine block for about $800. Power window lock no longer works. Other than that, car runs great :).

I have been experiencing a problem with my battery not staying charged. The first occurred when I had let the car set for about 2 days, it would not start. The battery would not jump. I had to buy a new battery. The battery post always get corrosion on it. I have had it cleaned and changed a couple of times, and it still gets corrosion on it in 2 days. I was told about two years ago that it could be the wires that run from one of the post to the engine. This time, my new battery only lasted about 3 months. Same problem. The dealer told me that I would have to buy a new battery. It appears that something is draining my battery, but no one can find out what. I had to get a new battery, but I am afraid that it will get drained also.

While driving home using the A/C I smelled an odor of burning plastic. I pulled to the shoulder of the road to investigate and noticed small amounts of smoke coming from under the passenger side dash board. With the ignition off I felt around behind and below the glove compartment and was burnt by melted plastic from a small black component (the blower control module as I found out later). The wires to the module were very hot, the connector had melted, and after letting it cool, the A/C blower would not work. I have discovered that Jeep knows about this problem, has made repair kits available but will not fix the problem or cover costs, the module costs about $165, the wiring repair kit costs about $20, the labor $80. The safety issue is obvious, with burning plastic, fire, smoke, fumes, and possible accident if this got out of control while driving. Health affects from the smoke fumes are indeterminate as of now. I have purchased parts to make the repairs, as well as a pyrometer to monitor wire and module temperature.
