My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee shuts off while driving. The first few times It shut off I was able to restart it with in a few minutes. I changed the crank sensor and that worked for a couple of weeks. It then did it again. I had to wait 20 minutes for it to start back up again. About 30 minutes later it did it again.. This time it would not start up and after an hour of waiting I had to cal AAA to tow it. I have heard many other people have the same problem . At this point I am afraid to drive my kids around in this vehicle as the fact that it randomly shuts off when I am driving poses a huge threat. I have not heard back from the mechanic yet .

Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L V6

I have a 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO 4.0L V6 and I love this truck but lately its been having a couple problems. I'd just switched the fan relay chip that was considered a recall and it'd sucked my battery dry, charged it up and it worked perfectly fine. Couple days later my steering wheel got hard, pulled right and brakes got real hard as well. Happened twice while driving. Doesn't happen anymore. No signs of bad brake booster and all fluids have been replaced and cleaned up.

Although now that I am driving every day the Jeep will turn off while driving on the highway, sometimes I can press the gas a couple times and it'll start again, but other times I need to pull to the side of the road turn, it completely off, because all electrical things are still working/on, place on neutral, sometimes park, and crank to turn on. It's an INTERMITTENT problem. Mechanic said if he can't duplicate it than "it would be like chasing a ghost".

You see here are my symptoms 1.car engine shuts off while driving. 2.all electrical components still on. 3.there's no warning at all. 4.need to start on neutral sometimes park. 5.can turn back on if press gas a couple times while still rolling. 6.when trying to turn on it doesn't crank or click when I can't turn it on. 7. when it does turn on it's a clean start. 8. this morning had car on(not running) check gauges light came on after a good while heard an electrical/charging/winding noise under the hood coming from around the alternator area(maybe) and check engine light comes when this happens happened a couple of times then both light turned off. Mind you there's is no error code when diagnostics ran through computer (replaced 2 months ago).

If anyone can please assist me with this problem i'd appreciate it so much because this is a safety hazard when driving down highway at 50-75 mph please and thank you

Update from Oct 16, 2015: Overdrive was on almost for 2yrs from prev owner all the time and now i have to play with it as much as i can so that it won't shut off maybe that helps but still need fixed

Jeep is at dealership for the 2nd time. They say they can't duplicate yet I had to have it towed home. It duplicated several times for us. We thought it was a faulty positive battery cable so replaced it. Got stuck again. Towed directly to dealership. They still can't get to duplicate. Don't know why but it easily breaks down on me!! A friend said it MIGHT be converter? Going to dealership to drive for them to show it does stall! They've put on computer and alternator, battery, etc checked out fine! If anyone has any other ideas, please post!

2011 Jeeps had a class action suit and it was the TIPM ( Totally Integrated Power Module).

No idea what is wrong and why it's stalling but other than this, the Jeep is in excellent condition with low miles. Makes me sick knowing a dealership can't fix their own vehicles!!

I just purchased this vehicle from a retired gentleman who had told me that the car died on his wife earlier that month and she did not want it anymore. I thought nothing of it because if my wife ever gets stranded by a car FOR ANY REASON, she wants a new car - I get it. That's how most ladies are - so I did not dig too deep for a major problem with the jeep. It drove well during the test drive and he had the CarFax. Now, almost 3 months later, the car has stranded me or my family numerous times and has died on the freeway while my wife was driving with our 3 kids and just died on me on August 3, 2015, luckily while I was pulling out of a side street to approach the freeway. I was nervous driving it the rest of the way home though. There is no way I can let my teenagers drive this unreliable potential deathtrap now! #WHATASUCKA

Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L V8

this 2000 Jeep is a bunch of crap . I get in the car and drive to the first stop sign or stop light, then it cuts off. I crank it back up and take off and goes to the next stop, and it cuts off. This happens every day. After it cuts off about six times, its almost ok . On the others stops it just idles up, then down, up then down, and then steady without cutting off. This car is a pain in the you know what. I don't think that I will get another late model. This is just crap! Get this 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7l v8 2wd, if you want to have a pile of junk.

This problem began shortly after buying the car........ It had happened only a couple times during driving the first 8 months of owning the Jeep (4/15/13).... It is now 11/24/14 and this problem happens sometimes 3 times a day and it has become a death trap. Only sometimes while sitting idle at a street light, but almost always while driving and on highways driving 55+ speeds (right in the middle of driving), very dangerous and scary, with no control. I have had the Jeep looked at by professional mechanics and they cant figure out what is causing it. My Jeep is routinely serviced and I take care of it and its needs as they happen, but this issue and its origin is unknown and needs the Jeep company to look into this before something more serious happens.

I don't have thousands to spend and can't afford another car at the present time, but this problem is most definitely life threatening while driving at high speeds on the highways. I can be driving down the street or highway and out of nowhere, with no engine problem sounds or anything, the car just dies, engine stops, and I have no control until I can come to a stop and try to restart the engine as other cars are whipping around me to avoid an accident. This is a very scary and uncomfortable position to be in and at times I am afraid to even drive the car, but have to for work and such.

I have heard of other Jeeps having the same problem and I hope there is a solution before myself, or someone else, loses their life. In all my driving life of owning cars, this is the first time I had incurred such a problem like this and I sure hope Jeep makes the effort to correct this issues on such vehicles.

Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L V8

I just bought a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee for $3,200. My Jeep drove good for 2 days, than I started dealing with a random stall out problem. I could be driving on the freeway and all of a sudden my Jeep just shuts off, WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS! That time I almost got slammed by a Big Rig.. Some times I'll be sitting at a stop light waiting for the light to change and bomb, just like that my Jeep stalls out.. I have blocked intersections dozens of times! I replaced my fuel pump, fuel filter, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft position sensor, spark plugs, battery, battery terminals, and my oil pressure sensor.. NOTHING HELPED MY STALL OUTS!!!!

I took my jeep to a couple different mechanics and they couldn't figure it out if their lives depended on it.. I also called the Jeep dealership here in Albuquerque, New Mexico and the techs and mechanics act like they never heard of this.. I think something needs to be done about this. Last time I stalled out with my 6 year old in the back seat it was during rush hour, and of course I almost got rear ended again that time.. Thanks
