Heater system fails and will not blow hot air. Blend door, and motor replacement is required at a cost of $800. I have a 2001 and 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee both of which have failed. One failed two times. Each repair is $800+.
The heating/air conditioning on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited is malfunctioning. It blows out cold air on the passenger side when I'm calling for heat.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact noticed that the heating and cooling system did not work. She called the local dealer and they instructed her to bring the vehicle in for inspection. While driving at an unknown speed to the dealer, she noticed freon rising from the instrument panel. As a result, other components of the engine and engine cooling system began to fail. The air conditioning and heater no longer worked. The dealer stated that not only had her blower motor and resister failed, but the heater core, evaporator core, actuator, and blend door (which no longer provided heat on the driver side of the vehicle) were corroded as well. The dealer further stated that the freon from the instrument panel originated from the evaporator core, indicating the presence of ethanol (toxic gas). The manufacturer has not offered any assistance and stated that the failures were due to lack of maintenance. Currently, the estimated cost that the contact has spent on repairs is $2,000. The vehicle is at the dealer and has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 91,000 and current mileage was 91,350.
Heater blend door malfunction - due to wear on plastic pins Dodge garage said that it caused the blower motor to overheat and melted the wires going to the blower motor. Repairs will cost around 1200 dollars at the Dodge garage.
I have a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited and always heard noises from the vent since I bought the Jeep, got it checked out when it was under warranty and they did something to the actuator. A little over a year ago I had coolant leaking into my car on the passenger side, had to get a new heater core ($800) then when they finished no heat was coming out, it was the blend door so they had to redo all the work in getting in there ($350 after I complained), 3 months ago, same problem heater core leak ($920), now 3 months after that I have no heat, took it in last week, blend door problem and $730. I have no heat in my Jeep!! I cannot believe they do not have a recall for this problem with so many people having the same issue and I have had it twice! something should be done.
Blend door failure in the HVAC system of my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. Failure causes HVAC system to blow cold air only. This could be catastrophic as I live in Colorado and need heat in the winter for visibility out the windshield.
Turned on my 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee on a cold January morning, there was no heat after several minutes. This problem persisted for a week and after bringing my vehicle to a nearby dealer, I was informed the blend door actuator had failed. The cost to repair the issue would be in excess of $1000 and if I had opted to perform the procedure myself the parts alone would have cost upwards of $300 and taken at least 8 hours to complete. This seems to be an issue on all 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and leads to complete heat failure with excessively expensive repair costs.
My climate control system only provides cold air. When the heat failed it caused a rapid fogging of the windshield since the defroster went from hot to cold.
I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland with 60,000 miles. The events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield, (2) fogging of front passenger windows, (3) failure of passenger heat and driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on both sides of Jeep. Consequently, (1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. To correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. According to the certified service department at the local Jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limiteds with duel zone ventilation systems.
I own a 2002 Jeep gc limited, the passenger side vents only blows cold air, my mechanic had told me this is a very common and expensive problem, but that Chrysler motors has not yet issued any kind of recall for this issue. He also told me that eventually the driver side will also fail, because the defective part is poorly made.
Air blend doors located deep inside dashboard have failed on my car & thousands of others. This causes the drivers compartment to typically freeze during winter months. Even though it is an admitted manufacturing defect, Chrysler will not issue a recall because it is not deemed enough of a safety issue. Since repairs are $1K or more, many people are putting off service or trying homemade remedies to fix the problem. Thus going without the repair or trying to do it yourself you make the drivers compartment very unsafe. Chrysler is making a huge profit off this repair and their service centers admit this.
Creaking, shattering noises coming from the passenger side of the dash. Cold air coming out of vents, when it's not supposed to. Dealership told me it was the blend doors that are failing.
Events leading up to failure: Normal usage of vehicle cabin comfort and safety controls (air conditioning/demister) systems. Failure: Cabin air conditioning system now does not regulate temperature. The system cannot be made to use hot or cold air on demand. In investigating this failure, it has come to my attention that 99% of all other owners of this vehicle report experiencing a failure of the 'temperature blend control doors' within the 'A/C blend assembly'. consequences: The vehicle demister is unable to clear the front windshield of mist/fogging (effectively, depending on outside temperature). Corrections: No corrections have been performed due to cost prohibitive expense to do so. The local dealerships quote a price of around $1800 to repair the failure, while obtaining parts and performing self-repair will cost upwards of $300 plus time spent.
On my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited cold air blows from one side of the dash even when I have the heat turned on. The Jeep dealer told me that I have a blend door failure and the repair will cost about 1200 dollars.
Blend door on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited initially stopped at that point and only blows cold air to the passenger. Now a year later I have no heat at all. Disappointed for sure and from the numbers of people with this problem, seems to be defective from the start. A recall should be called. 1500-1800 to fix on a car with less that 43,000 miles, give me a break, no wonder more people are buying Japanese.
