This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
Transmission making noise 1 week after purchase, took it in every 2 weeks to have it fixed for first 2 months. Vehicle had 40,000 km. Chrysler dealership answer was for us to do transmission fluid change (our expense), did not stop the noise, gave up after we took vehicle back 5 times, terrible service. Heater motor failed within 1 week of purchase, replace motor switch, heater fan making noise. Rear end was rebuilt 2 times within first 2 months of owning vehicle. Struts needed replacing within first month. Smoke comes from engine when stopped (intermittent), wheel alignment within first month (our expense again). This is our first and last Jeep/Chrysler product.
Main problem is the steering. Ever since I've had the vehicle there have been four alignments conducted and each time the toe was out of specs. The first alignment was done at 1200 miles and recently just had another at 26000. Vehicle continues to pull right even though there have been four alignments. It is not a 4X4 and I do not drive off road with it. Dealership said they took apart all components of the steering and found no problems. No parts were replaced, only continuous alignments have been done. The battery all of a sudden went bad and had to be replaced. Have had electrical problems with the stereo. Problems with rpms almost going down to zero after filling the fuel tank, and problems with a delay of accelerating. Recently went to start vehicle and heard a pop and smelled smoke, I think it was the starter and I'm going to have that checked soon at the dealership.
