Heater and air conditioner does not function properly. May blow heat on one side and cool air on the other side when the A/C is on. May need to turn all the up to 86 before heat will come out in the winter. Will sometimes correct itself if car is turned off and let sit for a period of time.

The contact owns a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the driver's side heated seat burned her and left two burn marks through the leather seats. She noticed the defect when hot spots began to come through the seat. She has unknowingly been burned five times. The manufacturer has not offered any assistance. The dealer stated that there was no recall for her VIN number; however, there is a NHTSA campaign id number 06V197000 (seats:front assembly:seat heater/cooler). The failure and current mileages were 38,000. Updated 02-19-08 the consumer stated at the same time there was a complete failure of the heating system including the defroster. Causing hazardous driving conditions. Updated 02/19/08

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee dual zone passenger side heat did not work at the onset of cold weather. Dealer stated the blend air door was broke. However to fix the broken part the entire dash assembly along with heater coil and ac coil had to be removed. The cost of the part was minimal compared to the labor expense to replace the part.

After owning the car for a year the passenger's side heat doesn't work at all. We took it in to get it diagnosed. They told us it was the blend door and they estimated $500 plus. The mechanic said this wasn't the first time he'd seen this, that's how he was so easily able to diagnose it as a blend door problem.

Windshield visibility frequently reduced due to failure of heater/cooling system, vehicle has no heat for defroster (or occupants). I took the car to the dealer, described the problem and was immediately told this was a known problem in the Jeep line with the blend door mechanism and would cost $1,200 to repair. Note: This was based solely on a description, no mechanic was required to look at the car; this issue is that well known to the dealership. Further, a diagnostic would require removal of the dash, costing $200-500 just to check/confirm. I reported the problem at 29,500 miles (of a 30,000 warranty) but was told I was beyond the warranty date. No corrective action or accomodation was offered.

When turn heat on cold air will come out. You will have to turn the head on and off so you can get heat to work. You should not have to do this to a 30.000 $ car!!!! this need to be fixed....this has happened a lots!!!!
