I have had a problem with my AC unit for a long time. The passenger side always is blowing warm air and the driver side is cool. In April 2013 we were on vacation and started smelling a burning smell....so horrible we had to pull over and try to air the car out. We found a small mechanic who said the AC was locking up so he turned something off (not sure of the correct wording here) under the hood so we could continue our trip, with NO A/C!

We got back home and took it the next day to our mechanic. He said our compressor was shot and needed a whole new one. An A/C Compressor, Dryer, H-Block kit and $1257 later.... I thought we were fixed. All worked fine until we had a leak under my car that I had checked out and we were informed that we would need a new evaporator for another $900-$1000!!! HOW can this be???? I could barely afford the first fix 9 months ago, why am I now needing an evaporator.

Today, January 12, 2014, I started my car, drove to the store and smelled something burning. Stopped at a quick place (since it's Sunday and our regular mechanic isn't open) and they said they think it's the A/C. They said it seemed very hot under the hood, so hot that they could see a spot on the compressor I THINK he said that looked "white" where it could have been burned. That is probably what I was smelling and right now is still making my garage smell like it. I've see other complaints with the "warm" air on the passenger side.... shouldn't this be recalled or fixed or something? I am afraid to drive it and have something start a fire under there. Feeling stuck since there is now way I will be able to afford this....again.
