My Jeep Grand Cherokee 2005 has only 25,900 miles and 4 of the 4 inside handles are broken, gone due to the poor quality plastic. This is a major safety concern and Chrysler don't wanna do nothing about it!!! what was gonna have to happen before Chrysler starts looking into this? what if me and my family get to a car accident and can't get out of the car !!!! maybe then they will look into it!!!!

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The interior door handles (2) have broken and caved into the door panel. The doors must be opened from the outside. If someone was somehow trapped inside the vehicle, this would create an additional safety concern. The dealership wants to charge $700 to fix each door. I have spoken to several Jeep Grand Cherokee owners and this seems to be a very common problem.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited edition interior door handles breaking off. 3 of the 4 door handles are unable to open the doors in case of an emergency. Due to the number of the same complaints about this safety issue, Jeep obviously has a manufacturing defect that needs a recall issued.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited interior door handles. 3 of my 4 handles have broken off. Jeep charges $700 to replace this. It is a joke, considering I have used the backseat door handles maybe 15 times since I have had it since 2007. I have never heard or seen door handles on any vehicle completely break off out of no where.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 42275 miles, the door panels on the rear doors are broken at the door handles and the doors cannot be opened from the inside. Additionally, both front door panels are cracked at the door handles and more than likely will break soon. Have inquired with local body shop and new door panels are approximately $450 each and are of the same design.

The front and rear passenger side door handles have broken off the door panels. The person sitting in the back seat cannot open the door on that side. I've been told it will cost over $1000 to replace the panels. Based on all of the similar complaints I've heard and read about, I think there should be a recall on this problem.

2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee- inside door handle/panels. In 5yrs the door handles are already cracking and falling into pieces. The plastic used surrounding the actual handle is cheap. Unreal to think now that this was ok'd. eventually there is no more handles, resulting with people stuck inside the vehicle. What's next...the motor for the windows goes out and then your really stuck or dead now"?" I mean come on. Chrysler make some new panels...fix your problem!

Two of the door handles on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee have broken off and are unusable. The other two are cracking and I am fearful they will be breaking off soon. The handles and the supporting door frames are all cracking in the same location and the handles then fall off. The manufacture has been unwilling to even discuss the issue. The dealer states it is $700 per door to fix. Parts to fix the door handles are unavailable for sale outside the dealerships. Due to the safety issue of being unable to exit the back seat area from the inside, I am unable to allow anyone to ride in the back seats at this time. If an accident were to occur, they would be unable to exit the car from the inside. There are numerous complaints posted as well as a website where hundreds of people are stating the same exact issue with their 2005 Jeep. There was not any outside circumstance that caused this defect. The dealer states it is "normal wear and tear". this is an unacceptable safety hazard. I hope you will address as a recall before someone is seriously injured because they cannot get out of the vehicle.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee 2005 door handle broke with less than normal use. Both front handle are broken. Even one of the backdoor handle is broken and people rarely seat in the back. My car has only 37,900 miles. The Jeep dealer wants to charge $1000 per handle in puerto rico. This is not normal and in my opinion could leave to people being trap in the car in case of an accident.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I purchased new. All of the plastic around the door handles has broken apart and now both of the rear doors cannot be opened from the inside. The front doors seem that they will be next to follow and the dealer says that the entire door panel must be replaced for an estimated cost of $485 each door. I find it very unsafe for my children to be in the back seat and not being able to bet out of the vehicle unless opened from the outside. The door handles should be addressed and I have read that there are many other reports of this happening. Please help, I love my Jeep. Interior door handle the drivers door has broken off behind the handle and the passenger front door is cracked. I feel its a safety issue as it seems to be a common complaint in which the doors become totally inoperable, mine have not gotten that far, but I am handicapped and that would complicate my situation even more. It appears to be very cheap plastic and the cost of repairing is written at $770. Plus tax.

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The interior door panels (all 4 doors) have cracked/crumbled around the door handles making it impossible to open the doors from the inside. This is a very dangerous safety hazard and should be addressed immediately. I have 75,000 miles on the vehicle, therefore it is not under standard warranty. The dealership said they could replace the entire panel on each door for about $500-$700 each.

I'm the original user of a Jeep grandcherokee Laredo,2005, with a 64,000 miles. The hazard is that all(4)interiors doors handles brokedown due to cheap plastic materials and because they made the door handles as an integrate part of the complete door panel.this is a safety hazard because the door opens only from outside, putting all occupants life jeopardized. This is not something of heavy use or due to behavior of the occupants. As a fact this car was my company car so no many people was sitting in the back seat. The cost of this four panels(including the handles) is above the $2,000. I saw other complaints in other sites about the same problem including people who bought these SUV's in europe. I can send you photos if you considered necessary and the details of the car identification numbers if you may think is necessary to continuing finding the solution of this hazard.

Interior door handles broken due to cheap plastic. In case of an emergency is a safety risk. Dealer won't sell door handles but instead a entire panel for over 500 dollars and I have all 4 broken.

problem #2

Mar 012010

Grand Cherokee 4WD 6-cyl

  • 20,000 miles
I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The interior door panels and handles to open the doors are all broken. The dealership wants $600-700 per door to replace. This is a safety defect rendering the passengers unable to open up the doors. The Chrysler Corp should do a recall and fix this obvious and dangerous design/manufacturing issue. As a result of the broken door panels, the door handles will not properly open up the doors for both the front and rear passenger doors. If there is ever an accident and those doors are the only escape route, they will render the passengers trapped in the car.
