I received a recall letter in June 2013 from Chrysler recall N23/NHTSA 13V-175 transfer case actuator. Stating software was not available just yet to fix. Then in August 2013 received a second recall notice explaining that the software is now available for the recall to be resolved. All I have to do is go to a Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealership and have the software reprogram the final drive controller module.on August 13/2013 I had the recall serviced at johnson Dodge dealership in budd lake NJ ( 481 rt 46 budd lake NJ 07828). They did service my vehicle for said recall. The next day and everyday since I have a warning light on my dash stating""service 4WD system". I read the car manual and did some trouble shooting, but light still on. I tried to put vehicle into 4WD lo, as instructed by the car manual. Result, is doesn't go into 4WD lo, warning message still coming on. I made an appointment (August 22/2013) for the same dealer to inspect this issue because I do believe possibly something was either done incorrectly, or wrong software. End result from second visit to dealer is, my transfer case actuator needs replacing !! ($600 plus tax). They will replace it, but I feel the two issues are related, and I should not have to pay the bill. The dealer reinspected all above components and stated the software is not working properly with the actuator? so end result is they want to replace the actuator. My original recall letter said I may have a fault in the actuator, but the second letter stated for the new software to fix all. The dealer said thats all they can do! call Chrysler and see what they say. Tried to call a second dealer, ( dover Dodge in randolph & rockaway NJ) and still waiting for a call back. I then called a 800# for Chrysler a customer hot line (800-992-1997) given to me by dealer, those too, I'm waiting on a resolution. I received the safety recall notice N23/NHTSA 13V-175 in the mail and called a local dealership to try to schedule a service appointment to have this corrected. The dealership is don white's timonium Chrysler Jeep Dodge located in cockeysville, md. I called on the phone twice to attempt to schedule this service and was disconnected both times. Then, I proceeded to try and schedule an appointment online thru their live chat service and was told that I would be contacted by the service department to confirm my appointment, but I never was. I just thought someone should know the lack of professionalism I experienced and the message I received from this experience is, "we do not want to deal with your safety recall." I have since scheduled an appointment at another local dealership.

While driving my vehicle suddenly shifted gears as if it were in neutral while rpms shot up rapidly to 3,000. It then suddenly lunged forward and picked up speed. The check engine light came on. After a day or so, the light would go off. It was very scary to have it change gears and not be able to maintain speed and suddenly speed up again while traveling with vehicles in front of me and behind me. You essentially have no control of the vehicle in that moment, nor do you have any warning that it is about to happen. Drivers around you also have no warning that your car will suddenly slow down or lunge forward. Most of the time I have to pull over and put the vehicle in park and then back into drive for it to work. Happens at any given time, whether im going 5 mph or 65 mph.. even on highways. Can be very dangerous.

For the last 3 months, both the interior and exterior lights will flicker and then go off. There is no warning before it happens. Many times you can turn the light switch off and then on again and everything will be fine. But lately, this does not solve the problem. I have taken it to a Jeep dealer to fix but since they can not duplicate the problem, they don't know what to fix. This is a huge safety issue as it has happened at night on a road with no street lights. It also makes the car unable to be seen by others..... an accident waiting to happen.

Purchased the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited (4.7L) new from dealership. It stalls unexpectedly. Usually at low speeds. Most of the time while turning. It does it probably once every two or three months, which makes it next to impossible to duplicate at the dealership. In addition, no codes are ever tripped, leaving no proof of an existing problem. We have taken it to the dealership on three separate occasions over the years while it was still under warranty, however, the dealerships maintained that if they could not duplicate the problem, they could not fix the problem, leaving it unresolved. The Jeep now has over 100K on it (out of warranty) and it continues to stall. What I find odd, is that this particular problem was happening to thousands of people with Jeep like mine over the years, but on the three separate occasions we took it into the dealership, they acted like they had never heard of the problem. How is this possible?

My 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee has now started sporadic headlight service. For the last few years I have noticed the dashboard lights dimming for no apparent reason but now the headlights are also cutting in and out. It seems there is no real solution from what I have been reading online and Chrysler needs to address this since it is very unnerving to not have headlights while driving at night.

On the date mentioned the vehicle described became locked in place unable to shift gears. The vehicle was towed into the dealer and the work performed. This involved the replacement of the transmission transfer case. At the time I questioned the possible reasons for the incident and received no answer. The total cost was in excess of 3000 dollars paid by me. I have since (upon conducting research) learned that the Chrysler Corp. Has reluctantly issued a recall for this exact issue. It was issued in may of this year. The Agency report specifically characterizes the electrical transfer case issue. I made repeated calls to the Chrysler Corp. And have been rebuffed with the explanation being "your VIN is not included in this action." I find this incredulous. My vehicle, a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee absolutely falls into the recall category. The invoice (#[xxx]) I received from world Jeep where the repair work was completed identifies the cause and repair as transmission/transfer case 2168cpdca. The case number I was given by Chrysler Corp. Is identified under # [xxx]. the recall campaign number under your Agency 13V175000. It is carried by Chrysler under campaign number N23. I cannot understand the arrogance of a corporation such as Chrysler in light of such absolute evidence to the contrary of their stance. I am requesting your assistance in this matter. Any documentation heretofore mentioned can be forwarded to your Agency if necessary. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

While driving my 2006 Grand Cherokee the vehicle will switch into neutral on it's own. This has occurred while stopped at lights, while driving at 70 mph, so on and so forth. The check engine light reads "shift control module" and this has been replaced twice and has not been cheap. When this occurs, the dash board lights light up around all gears (park, reverse, neutral, and drive.) I have had to pull off onto the side of the road and turn off my vehicle and restart it before it would switch back into the correct gear. I am wondering if the new safety recall 13V175000 is covering this issue. As I read, it seems my vehicle is not the only one with this problem. My next step was to replace the entire transmission as the person working on the vehicle did not know what else to suggest. This is very dangerous, especially with having to share this vehicle with a teenage son.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated when he stopped at a red light the vehicle shifted into neutral gear. The rpms increased excessively; however, the vehicle would not shift into drive or reverse. The contact stated that NHTSA recall campaign id number: 13V175000 (electrical system, power train) was related to the transfer case; however, the dealer stated the manufacturer confirmed the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was 76,000 and the current mileage was 76,360.

The headlights and dashlights started to flicker, I would turn off the lights and the back on but the problem would soon reoccur. I took it to my mechanic who couldn't duplicate the problem. He looked up the problem in a website to diagnosis the problem. He found that 60% of the time it was the headlight switch which was the problem. We replaced the headlight switch and arm assembly to this day some 5 months later the problem has been resolved.this problem seems to get worse over time without the repair.

I do not remember exactly when the problem started, but while driving at night, my lights started flickering and then went out all together. I thought it happened when I turned my signal lights on, but I am not sure if this is the cause. I took it to the Jeep dealer and they could not find anything. Every now and then, I have the same issue, but nothing can be found. This is very dangerous for me and it terrifies me that someone will think I am flashing them and become angry. There is obviously something wrong if there are so many with this type of problem, but nothing is being done about it. I purchased as a one person lease vehicle from a dealership and within a year had to have my transmission replaced. I could not enter transmission in the parts section.

While driving in normal dry conditions this past evening unexpectedly all my interior gauges and dash electronics started flickering on and off to include the radio, hazard lights and everything inside. At the same time I realized I was also loosing my exterior headlights and also brake control because my car was essentially running but with no electronics. It started making a weird grinding pulsating noise that would accompany the flickering lights. This forced me to exit the road at a gas station. It then stopped and I began driving again only to have it resume shortly. Thankfully I was close to my destination and was able to shut the vehicle off for the night. This has happened occasionally in the past couple months during the day but this is my first night experience. I thought it was just a glitch but it is definitely getting worse and has become regular. The next morning I was able start and drive my vehicle to work and it repeated this behavior a couple more times. At days end I went to leave and now my Jeep won't start and hasn't for two days. All the electronics come on but when I turn the key it just clicks. I also had this problem in the past but when my mechanic looked at it he was unable to duplicate the problem.

For a few months now & without warning: The dashboard lights, tachometers, heater, and headlights flicker on/off, then go completely off. Then if applying the brakes, there is a ferocious grinding noise and loss of steering. Engine seems to slow down or not want to shift to next gear while driving. All this happens when there is flickering. Seems to happen at random but getting worse. Check engine light stays on for a day then disappears. I have video recording of these incidents. Vehicle has been checked but "nothing reports" so I am told it cannot be repaired.

We were driving home last night on a straight section of highway 50 East of carson city Nevada and the lights went bright then out then flickered on and off then it was okay. A short time later on the same highway still a straight section it did the same thing, I pulled over, lights went to normal. The traffic was light at the time thank god. This was on a 4 lane highway. The manufacturer should take care of this issue without hesitation and immediately. I have been reading lots of incidents like what we went through.

While driving under completely normal conditions, several severe problems occurred simultaneously; interior dash lights started flashing on and off, vehicle started sputtering and became unresponsive when trying to accelerate, grinding sound from left front wheel accompanied the other problems further adding to the vehicle suddenly slowing down while in motion. All warning lights were lit up when flashing stopped, but then a couple of minutes later while I was trying to limp into a parking lot to get the car off the road the dash lights started wildly flashing on and off again and the car continued to be virtually unresponsive when stepping on the gas. After shutting the car off and restarting it, the esp/bas lights remained on for a couple of days, but eventually went out, but the check engine light remained on. The problem happened again on 3/29/2013 while I was driving under normal conditions. It was sudden, unexpected and scary. With the right set of circumstances, it could be devastating and extremely dangerous. Once I started doing a bit of online research, I found many Jeep forums packed full of owners with the identical model and year of my Grand Cherokee that are having the same grave issues. It is clearly very widespread for this particular vehicle, and then I found the arfc page and I was astounded at the numbers of owners of my year and model who have also had hair raising incidents who have described the exact set of problems that I have had. Chrysler cannot ignore the massive numbers of people who are reporting the same defect issues. It is well beyond the realms of coincidence, and it is too dangerous to ignore. There needs to be a national factory recall asap before somebody gets killed.

Pulling away from stop sign my vehicle lost power (stalled out). The lights for park, reverse, neutral, and drive all came on at one time. Lost power for about 15 seconds then car starting moving again. This has happened a few times not just the one date listed here. This was the only time I was actually pulling out into traffic. Could have caused a major wreck. Sometimes it does it while driving down road and I have to pull over to turn car off. When I start it back again it runs fine for a while. Ever since this has been happening my airbag light and engine light have been coming on and off all the time. About a year ago, I had to have a speed sensor changed on the transmission cause the car would not shift through gears cost me around $800 because it had to be taken to a transmission service center. Are these problems all related? bought this car from a private seller (one owner) well taken care of. All maintenance was up to date when I purchased the car about 1 1\2 years ago. Is there any recalls on any of the problems I listed here?
