I bought the car used 9/2/2016 and I heard the noise a week after I got it. It would go and come so I took it back to the dealership and they told me all 2013 does it. I work for the auction and I would start every 2013 and 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee up to hear for the noise. Now 2014 made no noise. 90 % of all 2013 did have the noise coming from the power steering. I was told by the dealership nothing is wrong with cause they looked at and they started all 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and it's normal . I didn't feel safe about it since I have a baby in the car. Well a week after I had it at dealership the power steering locked up. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING BUT NO DEALERSHIP IS TAKING THIS SERIOUS !!!!!! Jeep needs to recall or look into this before someone has a accident. I will be trading mine in and NOT getting a JEEP again cause it's scary.

Apparently their is an on going problem with these power steering units ( 2011- 2013 ) that jeep is aware of but has done nothing about repairing or recalling. What I have found online is that the leak is cause by a hose. When it gets hot, it leaks. Oh lets not forget this, its flammable !

Oddly enough I brought my jeep into WESTBURY JEEP to have them give it an overall check up before my warranty expired, they found nothing! ODDLY though, less than a week later I was out of power steering fluid!

I'm going in tonight for my annual inspection, I'll be posting any findings. I've owned several JGC over the years but I'm starting to wonder about trading in.

I run Royal Purple on the diff's and Mobil 1 on the motor along with a K&N air cleaner. The air cleaner has allowed for better throttle response and ( though I could be wrong ) smoother shifts.

Grand Cherokee Limited V6

A strong whining sound when cold starting [-20 C] and the steering is a little tight when I drive off immediately. Was told by the service manager that is was the oil flowing through the steering pump causing this noise. Has this oil become thick during this time because if it does, the steering will not function safely. I wait for the whine to die down in about 5 minutes and then drive off. Is there a problem with the size of some of the components - like valves, oil lines, problems from the steering pump?If the oil is thick, it may not be providing the same amount of viscosity that is required to service the steering. Is there a fail safe gizmo in the componentry of the power steering.
