I've come to learn this part was redesigned 3 times during 2014. The manufacturer has clearly identified the original design was defective and made several attempts to rectify it. My understanding is from mid-2014 onward the replacement was a complete new fuel filler system. For individuals such as myself, who are unfortunate enough to have one of the earlier defective systems, Jeep's solution is for the customer to have to pay for a complete new system costing $200 plus 2 hours labor @$250 hr - that's $700 for the customer to pay for a complete new fuel system because a $50 plastic neck was faulty, defective, weak and thus was discontinued.
This part should absolutely be covered on an extended warranty . Note to Fiat group : you know it's a problem, hence you redesigned it 3 times in 12 months so have the decency to fix it for your customers.
