About These NHTSA Complaints:
This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
My 2014 diesel Grand Cherokee has had emissions for the past 3+ years. On 12/9/19 they changed the particulate filter and right after that there was exhaust smells coming through the vents. The dealership attempted to fix this smell in late December and then again in January. They found a cracked valve cover on 1/10/20 and fixed that. I was then driving the car on 1/12/20 and it started on fire and was destroyed. Chrysler investigated the crash and determined that it was not a manufacturing problem
The driver headrest airbag randomly deployed without incident. The vehicle was stationary. Brought to dealership and was informed this was not covered under 100K warranty. Felt this was concerning as potential other headrest airbag may deploy. Additionally asked about the leather pulling up off the dashboard but informed this also was not covered.
Driver seat headrest popped off while driving, almost causing an accident. Got headache for 2 hours after that. Thought, I had a rear collision, the way it felt.
While using the navigation I am warned of turns or exits ahead with instructions like: "turn right in 1/2 mile" on multiple occasions I have started appropriate lane changes to follow the verbal instructions when I glanced at the map and found I was actually shown to turn in the opposite direction. There is no consistency in this failure and my Jeep dealer stated that unless I demonstrated the problem there was nothing I could do under warranty. As of this date I have suffered one near miss and have had to shut off voice notices to avoid this problem with the resultant need to look at the map and not keep my eyes on the road. I believe this is a software problem and is probably occurring on other Jeep.and may have caused accidents and injuries.

(VIN corrected from previois report, firstbdigitbwas incoreect)passenger seat headrest deployed while driving, the vehicle was not involved in a collision, the headrest deployed on its own hitting my wife in the backpack her head as well approached a stop sign on local streets.
Passenger seat headrest deployed, the vehicle was approaching stop sign upon stopping the headrest deployed and hit my wife in her head. There was no collision involved, the headrest deployed on its own.
The active headrest on the driver's side deployed unexpectedly while the car was parked. As I understand it, this is only meant to happen during a collision and is a safety feature of the vehicle. Thankfully it did no strike my head during the process.
Front seat, middle console cup holders, trim, has become dangerous! the high polished silver colored accent trim has pulled away from the circular area of the cup holders. The material is a plastic metal that is very sharp and has cut up my fingers over 10 times in the last year. Because the design rolls in and down like a backwards C the plastic metal has frayed from use and doesn't lay flat or sealed to the cup holders. Each time the cup holders are use the cups get caught on the cup holders and also cut the cups. I hope a coffee cup doesn't break on me or a passenger in this situation and burn them. My options are to peel the bad trim away and have it look worse or pay a large amount of money to replace the whole middle console unit, not practical for the consumer. This is about the safety of the user and not the visual appearance.
The dashboard of the car has developed waves in the leather covering. It is unclear if the glue has loosened, the leather material went bad, the original installation was poor, or something completely different happened. I addressed this with the dealership but they blew me off. They claim it was cosmetic and not covered with my extended warranty. Soon the dashboard defect might effect the sensor on the dashboard if it get blocked by the material breaking down more.
The car is making a humming noise that sounds like wind noise from the windshield on the drivers side. The noise occurs more often at speeds higher than 60 mph but isn't every time. It starts gradually and grows louder. It is distracting and not good for drivers being able to Focus on the road.
After driving over a curb in a busy retail store parking lot, my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee went into full acceleration. I could not slow it down with braking, as the brake was totally ineffective, although I had full pressure on the pedal. I crashed into another vehicle, which severed my lower control arm, the wheel swung out and was cut into two pieces, and the axle came out.as a result. I had reached speed exceeding 40 mph in a second or two. It was the most traumatic event I have ever been in. I have researched dozens of accounts of this exact vehicle experiencing "sua" or sudden unintended acceleration where it could not be slowed and went into uncontrolled speeds leading to crashes. Here is the link: M.carcomplaints.com/Jeep/grand_cherokee/2014/engine/vehicle_speed_control-4.shtml I am injured as a result and will require extensive follow-up medical care. I am enclosing pictures of the aftermath. Please help me obtain some assistance from this manufacturer to provide compensation for my loss and subsequent damages. Consumer stated I was contacted by the fca inspection team that the inspection was completed on November 4.
I own 2014 Grand Cherokee over, 40,000 miles. The covering on the is separating in several areas. The plastic vent covers on the dashboard have also separated from the dash cover. Vehicle has been garaged most of the time otherwise have used sun protectors on dash.
My dash board is separated, meaning the leather is separating from the dash for no reason, this is know problem with these vehicles. My Jeep is a garage kept, and there is no reason for this to happen. I spoke with the dealer and they said this is well problem and is not covered under the warranty. They want over $3000 to replace the dash. I see on the internet that there are a lot of complaints, plus I know three others that have the same issue with their Jeep Grand Cherokee. Chrysler should replace the dash at no cost to us the customer, these vehicles are in the 40 and 50,000 range and should not have these kind of issues.
Makes buzzing noice, vibration from dash on drivers side. When I go 60 70 or more is starts loud then soft. Soft buzz and gradually gets louder. Does not do it all the time, but when it does it is annoying
After the recent recall was completed it's not hard for my car to shift into desired gear. It must have the breaks fully applied in order to go from neutral to drive on city streets if it gets bumped or going through a car wash. It has caused several occasions of the car wash location I go to to shut down because I can't get my car into drive in time. While hooking up a trailer I can not safely back up to it because I can't see, before I had to leave my driver door slightly open to navigate and now it auto shifts into park. This is extremely annoying. The worst part is I paid $600 for a 'back up system' from the manufacturer upon purchase- they only installed sensors and no camera! I complained many times but never got the attention or equipment I thought I purchased. Now that 'recall' made everything worse and almost cause accidents I never had an issue with before.
My driver's side active headrest deployed without being in an accident and not moving. There are a couple of broken plastic pieces that allow to rest to deploy
Vehicle has lost power and fuel mileage after completing the fca approved emissions modification. There is a hazardous dead spot/lag in acceleration from a stop. All driving characteristics have changed drastically even after fca claims nothing would be affected by the aem.
