The vehicle was only a few months old. The car operated normally for a 30+ mile drive. It was parked in a public lot for a day. When backing out of a flat parking lot (no incline), the vehicle was put into reverse and accelerated on its own, hitting a parking pillar. My foot was barely off of the brake when it accelerated .... very fast. HUGE damage was done to the back end, hatch door, bumper, floor pan and frame; repair cost was $5500+. Luckily no injury to myself, property or other person/vehicle. My fear now is if it will happen again, not being as "lucky" as the first time. After further research, this seems to be a problem with this make/model.
