problem #1

Grand Cherokee Limited 3.6L/V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 32,000 miles

I want to preface how much I love my Jeep, I bought it with 8500 miles on it. It was an Enterprise rental previous to my purchase.

The first issue, and most worrisome is when starting the Jeep, is the check engine light illuminated, and then when trying to shift into park the gears on the middle console and on the dash flash and will not engage. I have taken it to the shop 3xs for this issue. Literally the last date of service was 12/31/20 and the next morning the issue resurfaced almost every day in January 2021.

Error codes were noted and given to the dealership to resolve, they made some software updates, which seem to make this issue worse! I have found a temporary work around by placing the engine into neutral and trying to reshift into reverse or drive as appropriate. The check engine light will reset after a few more times of driving, or running the check engine light reset sequence. I do not think this is a software issue.

Secondly, the auto start/stop can be very hard and lurch the transmission very hard. They thought they fixed that too when I provided them the latest advisory. The software fix did not resolve this issue either.

Thirdly, I have to have the water pump replaced 2x in the last 3 months.

Fourth, the back hatch was not lifting and they replaced the mechanism, per the advisory last month as well. This "fix" is still not working all the time.

Fifth, the back tail gate has spontaneously lifted in the garage 2x.

Sixth, the driver memory will spontaneously change when another driver with a fob walks by the car if the engine is on and another driver is seated.

OK, Rant over. I am trying to decide whether or not to bring the Jeep back to the dealership for the issues again, but hesitate to do so until I find solutions to suggest the investigate.

Update from Dec 4, 2021: FINALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM!!! 1. They said it was the transmission Fluid level, NOPE 2. They performed all the software updates, NOPE 3. I INSISTED THEY INSPECT THE VALVE BODY....YES, IT WAS THE VALVE BODY!!! IT HAD AN OPEN CIRCUIT IN THE SOLENOID. THEY ALSO FLASHED WITH NEW SOFTWARE FROM PART NUMBER 68275501AA TO 68361911AH. THIS TOOK OVER 30k MILES OF DRIVING TO FIX. IN HAD 53885 MILES BY THE TIME WE FINALLY FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM.

4.Also had the waterpump and liftgate motor replaced during this time too. (I bought the 100k full warranty and have used it!!!)

*This fix fixed the auto stop/start lerching, the inability to put the Jeep into gear, and the check engine light problem (all of the symptoms were interconnected.)
