I received a recall that mentioned I needed a tow bar...they neglected to mention that the gas tank was plastic and not protected and that I could die as a result of not having a tow bar installed. It came off, and caused an intersection to be closed many fire trucks, lots of gas spilled. I was involved in a rear end collision that could have killed me and the person who hit me.
Also, the only reason I didn't get the tow bar is because the body was starting to go and it had been my favourite vehicle I've ever had...I loved JEEP and didn't want to cost them the money of installing a tow bar on an older vehicle (when I never planned on towing anything). If I had have received a recall that mentioned that people were dying in fiery crashes I would have gone straight in to get it. I just drove it all the way to Newfoundland and back with my young son. I have been deeply affected by this for some reason.
I called Chrysler and was told by two different people that my incident was a direct result of the recall not being performed on my vehicle and to take it to the dealership and have it fixed (covered by Chrysler). I tried to do so and was told NO. Then I was offered it to be fixed and a courtesy car (because this happened ONE WEEK into my new position) and I've spent tonnes on rentals, and bought another car still to be ignored by Chrysler. All I wanted was for my Jeep to be fixed and an actual recall to be sent to everyone who hadn't fixed it explaining the serious nature of the recall. One letter years ago about a tow bar does not equal due diligence.
I have a lawyer and am considering suing. I don't even want money. I just want a proper recall to alert of the real danger. I have documentation of everything (they record phone calls). At the end of the day, if I hear one MORE person has died as a result of this I am going PUBLIC to tell the world that Chrysler is more than aware of the DEATH this issue is causing and is NOT taking appropriate measures to stop that from happening again.
