At start up, right after the ignition key is inserted and turned, the engine revved up really high and made a loud high pitched squeal. A very scary sound as it is usually quite quiet. (Quiet for a diesel that is) The Jeep was in park, and the brake was pressed. The AC and radio were off. The check engine light did not come on. The ignition was immediately turned off and the engine stopped revving as it should.
Waited a minute and tried to start the Jeep again, but it wouldn't start. Waited 5 minutes and the engine wouldn't start. Waited 30 minutes and the engine wouldn't start. Waited an hour (for CAA to arrive), the engine started, but thick black smoke came out of the exhaust.
Drove it my local Jeep dealership and they couldn't do a thing, because the check engine light did not come on and therefore there is no code. Wasted $130 for no answers. This is a very scary situation, since I don't know if this problem will occur again and if will it happen while I'm driving? Will it cause the vehicle to run away on itself and burn out the engine causing a fire?
