Cannot go out of town or long distance driving it over 45 minutes or the Transmission light will turn on. Drove long distance before and had to pull over, put it on Neutral and let it cool down. Same thing over and over for long periods of driving. (pulling over letting it cool down). Now we have to rent cars to go out of town or long distance destinations. Not sure what the problem is, but took to several shops and couldn't figure out the problem. Here it is 2019 and I still have my Jeep, but cannot go long distance with it. I have 141,411 miles on it and I can only use it in town or short distances. Gets me to work and back, but gets expensive renting cars. Time for a new car I guess.

This vehicle has become a big problem and it's not even at 100,000 km. Make sure anyone buying this gets the aftermarket extended warranty. Saved me lots of money so far. This vehicle has had the brakes looked at now for a third time, All of the control arms we just replaced, both CV boots, and left front axle. Now the CVT transmission is lurching during acceleration. I've has to explain this to the dealer numerous times and remind them of the extended warranty each occasion we bring it back. I could understand some of the issues if it was driven hard and off road but, It is driven on the highway about 30 km a day and has barely seen a gravel road let alone any off road activities.

For about the last six months my car would pop out of first gear while driving or would grind when putting it in 1st gear. Last week it popped out of 5th gear while on the expressway and immediately slowed down to 40 mph. I was able to get it back it in gear and had to hold it there. The engine was very loud and there was some sort of whistling noise coming from under the hood. I was able to get off the expressway where then there was a loud spraying noise or something. I again had to hold it in gear to drive when I heard a loud noise like something fell off and I rolled it over. I stopped to look but there was nothing in the road. I was able to get it back home through the loud whistling and holding it in gear. The next day I attempted to drive it to the dealership, but only got about a mile down the road when I could no longer get it in first gear and it began to jerk while in neutral. I first called my dealership (Falls Jeep Dodge), who was no help and said they couldn't get me in until a week and a half later although she was on the phone with me when I couldn't get it in gear. I called Chrysler who were a lot more helpful and covered the tow to the closest dealership, which was not the one I bought it from, but were more helpful. Turns out a bearing had come loose and blew a hole through the side of my transmission and 1st, 3rd, and 5th gears were messed up. They initially thought it could be rebuilt until they saw the hole. I did not get pics, but wish I had. They replaced it with a brand new transmission, clutch, and pressure plate. Total came to $4688. Thank Jesus it was under warranty.

I bought this car after having to trade in a vehicle I bought from a private dealer that cost me $1000's to fix so I finally had to get rid of it in a hurry. They dealership gave me peanuts. LOST again $$. The Chrysler/Jeep dealership had a trade in that was in my car budget. It was a JEEP Patriot Latitude. I had to take it in now twice for shifting and acceleration issues with the car stalling several times on acceleration. Also as I was going 60 MPH you could feel the hard shifting and hesitation in the motor.

I had to drive it to KY and picked it up and was told that the Power Sensor Module was the issues and it was fixed. Not long after being on the road to KY it happened again just hours after picking it up. Now the car has to be taken in again. I am a single mom and already out THOUSANDS of dollars and have not even made the 1st payment.

I have read many reviews in the JEEP patriot 2011 and 2012 for recalls and engine stalling with children in the car and car stalling on major highways accelerating in traffic. They are lucky that no one has died. I am going to ask to exchange the car but the lemon laws state they have to try to fix it 4 times. I am so disappointed that a trustworthy dealership has put me yet again in a car with issues just to push it on me. I have lost thousands and have depleted my bank account just to have a vehicle. My Nissan Xterm with 202k miles ran better for 10 years more then a car I have had for 25 days.
