Renegade Latitude 4wd 1.4L

  • Manual transmission
  • 15,004 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I bought my 2016 Jeep Renegade brand new in December 2016. It is just a little over a year old and it has 15004 miles on it. We have taken it on road trips but I primarily drive it to work and home. On our way home yesterday the clutch started to act up. I got in it today to drive it and it started off okay but rapidly deteriorated to the point where I had to pull over and call a tow truck. The tow truck towed it to the dealership. I'm waiting to hear what they think happened. There is no way a clutch should be replaced after 15,000 miles. I've driven many manual transmissions over the years and have only had one replaced at that was after 85,000 miles.

Update from Jan 10, 2018: Quote from the dealer is $3800 to fix.

Renegade Sport 1.4t

  • Manual transmission
  • 13,400 miles

Extremely odd and sudden premature failure of the clutch. Only a few months old and 13,400 miles!! Drove all day just fine and every day before then, headed home up a grade and it started "slipping" in 6 gear almost like it was in neutral and then would suddenly "catch" and go and Cruise control kept kicking off. nearly all the CEL and warning lights appeared too. Babied it up the grade, reached the top and it was all fine. CEL and warnings went away. 20 miles later I Get about 5 miles from home and any throttle response would make the rpms jump with no acceleration just as if I put it in neutral. Thinking it may have been a transmission failure i attempted to shift and could not. it was stuck in 4th. All the braking force i applied would not completely stop the vehicle, would buck and jolt no matter how much i pushed the clutch or brake. Had to manually shut vehicle off. Once parked i was able to shift into 1st and all the other gears, I tried to start it and wouldn't do it. Acted like the clutch was still engaged even when the clutch pedal was depressed.

No burning smell of the clutch, rattling, stiffness, jerkiness or bucking occurred nor has any "slippage" occurred in the few months that I've owned it. Hell my 1970s 3/4 truck still has its original clutch in it and both me and my sister learned to drive manual in that. it has been a billion times more beat up than the jeep has.

the Jeep is my 6th manual vehicle that I've owned so I personally know its not user error.

Had it towed to the dealership, and nothing is covered under warranty, ended at 12,000 miles. so $1700 and 17 hours of labor and it should be fixed.....at least it seems that way. Clutch has been on order for a week now and might not be in for another week. Very frustrating
