My front wipers have not worked for several years now. I said 2012 but it could honestly be much longer than that. I don't remember a time they DID work, it's been that long. At first the dealership thought it was the motor. Replaced that and they still did not work. Went back and they said that it is the TIPM. And oh by the way NO ONE can get a TIPM because they are on a severe back order. Do you know how much of a pain it is NOT to have front wipers!? Right now, my wipers are hot wired to the battery and I have a 'switch' that operates the wipers so that I can at least see in the rain or snow. I only get one speed. The wires that are used just to get the wipers to work are starting to go bad and every once in a while, in the pouring rain, I have to get out of the car, lift the hood and wiggle them just so they work! This is ridiculous! Its been years and I can't get a TIPM!? REALLY!? I have two kids that are in the car with me most of the time and its getting quite old. WHY CAN'T I GET A NEW TIPM!? Wipers are kind of a necessity for driving in inclement weather... It is unsafe not to have working wipers and when you buy a car you kind of expect them to work!

Wrangler Limited 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 91,000 miles

Upon starting, horn blows constant, wipers turn on, washer squirts, driver's side headlight and back up lights turn on. After turning off ignition and removing key, engine remains running and accessories remain on. After disconnecting battery, engine and accessories continue to operate for approximately 90 seconds.

The wipers will not shut off even when the car is turned off and the key is removed from the ignition. Pulling the fuse is the only way to get it to stop. The dealer changed the wiper motor and it did not fix the problem at $200.

They then said it is the TIPM and that it would cost over $1000 plus labor. I called about the part and it is on extensive back order due to so many issues with it. There is currently TIPM recalls on Jeep Grand Cherokees. This should also be a recall, the wiper motor is probably only the tip of the iceberg. One possible failure includes the engine shutting off which Chrysler is facing a class action lawsuit due to the number of deaths when they did not fix the problem in other models after they were made aware of the problem. This is a serious faulty part issue that goes back to the supplier and Chrysler should do what is right and recall them and replace them before anyone else gets hurt.
