My wife was driving my son to school and the HVAC blower began cutting in and out, the wipers came on, washer fluid was squirting out, the horn started blowing, the running lights and head lights began to flicker on and off and the Jeep stalled. Could have killed both of them as they were moving through busy school traffic.

We ended up needing the vehicle towed home. The behavior continued with the key turned to the run position. The only way I knew to stop it was disconnect the negative battery terminal. I waited about 30 minutes and reconnected the negative terminal. Again, the behavior started and I could here a lot of "clicking and switching" under the TIPM. I immediately disconnected the negative terminal again. I have since replaced the clock spring, the blower resistor and blower relay. Reason for the blower stuff is the blower would run without the key in the ignition. Fairly certain the TIPM messed up the relay or resistor or both. Probably just the relay, but the parts were cheap so I went ahead and replaced both.

I think Chrysler has a major problem with their TIPM's as the incidents above aren't isolated to just our Jeep. Hundreds of thousands of recalls and they can't even keep the part in stock from having to replace so many at the tune of ~$1200. The behavior is sporadically consistent (if that makes sense) with ours. No vehicle with as few miles as ours should have power management issues like this. Really no vehicle should ever have these sorts of electrical issues regardless of the number of miles; unless it's buried in water or mud... to which our vehicle has never had either.

IMO Chrysler is negligently putting peoples lives in danger while milking their customers for high cost repairs. Furthermore, the part is $600 and it takes 30 min to replace the part. They tell you the vehicle has to be reprogrammed, but I'm not so sure about that either. The BCM I believe automatically learns and adjusts to the replacement TIPM through a sequence of actions with the key in the ignition. Could be incorrect about that.

2008 Jeep wrangler bought for 16 year old daughter Dec 2015 The dealership replaced the TIPM because it was having electrical issues and found TIPM Burnt said it was melted. That was replaced in January 2016 it is now May 2016 and the windshield wipers going off on their own horn blowing power instruments on dash components having issues and these are signs of a faulty TIPM. This is a dangerous situation especially for a young 16 year old female to drive because the issues can get worse. Very disappointed in the things I have read about not being a recall when there are so many Jeeps having problems with the TIPM. Very afraid for my daughter to be driving her dream car and she is crushed. Way to go Chrysler Dodge Jeep, you have totally let everyone down on not doing the right thing by not fixing this issue.

While driving, the horns began to sound intermittently, wipers came on at various rates, and the washers were spraying. No dash lights or CEL displayed and the shift indicator was not functioning. After I was able to pull over and turn the vehicle off the horns, wipers and washers continued until I pulled the fuses from the panel.

I took it to the nearest Jeep dealer and explained the situation and was met with looks of astonishment that they had never heard of such issues. The dealer was unable to gather any computer issue codes or "duplicate" the problem and returned m Jeep only to have the issue happen again on Sunday (dealer closed).

No issues for 3 days and this morning I drove about 1/2 mile and the symptoms began again. I went straight to the dealer and this time they were able to get a "circuit overload" code for the blower motor.

This 2008 Jeep was built in late 2007 and I suspect it has 2007 parts on it and should be covered by the 2007 recall.

2007 Wranglers were recalled for this problem as were other years. I have a 2007 Wrangler purchased in 2007. It was scary. I would be driving and the horn would start honking and the windshield wipers and fluid would begin working without me touching anything.

There was no indicators on the dash it was all blank and the blinkers would not work, not to mention it would not come out of park. it has been sitting at the dealership since new years and they say they cant get the part until March 28th 2016. I have no vehicle for 3 months even though I am paying for it!!!! I have called Chrysler several time and I have been told that a case manager will contact me and that has not happened yet!!! Just purchased 2008 Jeep Wrangler for my son and the auto door locks do not work. Noticed failed fuse, so tried to replace it. As soon as I put in fuse it arcs and most times blows. I disconnected all 5 doors and same thing. The horn and hazards do work when pressing key fob, but locks do not. I can disconnect battery and put in fuse then reconnect battery and does not blow right away, but locks still do not work. All forums I tried and dealer say it is TIPM. Worried it will affect something else down the road when son is driving. Hate for fuel pump or airbag have an issue from this.

All of a sudden, while driving, wipers started to come on last week, today it was raining and just realized I could not turn on wiper, lights or turn signals & it was so dangerous cause I am on the highway while its raining and I can see sh*t!

I was really pissed off, I could have put other peoples life and mine in danger.....I will take it to machanic tomorrow but it definitely looks like TIPM issue from reading so many threads over the net....How did Chrysler manage to get off the hook on this one.

Can you imaging drivig in the highway in the middle of the night & your head light goes out.

My wife opened the rear drivers door with keys in her hand and the wipers (front and rear) and running lights came on. While investigating how this happened with no one in the vehicle, the horn started blaring and the non-working blower motor also started. Nothing would work to shut it off except disconnecting the positive battery post.

When battery reconnected, nothing would work - could not start the engine or turn on/off any accessories, lights or horn. After 2-3 minutes of testing with the key in ignition and in the run position, horn, lights, wipers and blower started again along with the engine starting without turning the key. None of the switches would turn anything off and removing the key from the ignition would not stop the engine or any of the electrical items. Removing both terminals from the battery also made no difference. Had to remove the wires from the alternator in addition to the battery in order to stop the engine and electrical problems.

2 days later, contacted a local dealer and dropped the vehicle off for investigation (after removing the horn wires since that was still blaring). Dealers mechanic called to say that Chrysler recommended a flash update for the TIPM and PCM to correct the problem and that they had performed the updates and tested the vehicle for 2 days with no problems. Dealer charged $104.50 for this and no parts were replaced. So far the exorcism seems to have worked.

I use my Jeep everyday to deliver mail. While driving, the wipers will go on continuously, the wiper fluid will keep spraying constantly, the horn will go on solid and stay on, the back up lights come on, the heater fan will go off and on and just today the ABS light came on and my brakes locked up. Twice the engine kept running without the key in the ignition!!! I have video on my phone.

So I own an '08 Jeep Wrangler X. My problem happens to be with the factory TIMP on my vehicle. On three separate occasions the car decided it was time to blare the horn non stop as well as flash lights and utilize its windshield whippers and fluid. Today, 11/20/215, was the longest and most frustrating episode. Usually the horn would start but then subside after 20-30 seconds. This was not the case and at 5AM the horn, lights, and whippers started going off and didn't stop until i had to pull the fuses for the horn. after that everything stopped and i only had to remove the two horn fuses. I also want to add that the heater did not work until after this entire episode as i was in fact driving while this all occurred. In addition to this issue i have experienced gas spit back on multiple occasions while filling up. I have researched both issues and it seems as these are both related to a defective TIMP. I have also read there currently isn't a recall and they are on back order nationwide.

Started with a/c fan would not work. Then, horn would blow, wipers and fluid go off for couple of seconds. Did it sporadically, every other week. Got worse, horn, wipers, fluid would go off, not stop until battery cable pulled. Took to dealership twice, they said could not replicate the problem, so there was no problem. Problem continued, to include automatic transmission stopped shifting. Researched and found out about TIPM problem.

Went back to dealership, asked if they ever heard of my symptoms before, or if Chrysler had ever received similar complaints. They said NO. I was the first person ever to have this happen??? I pressed more, but they denied. I told them of the KNOWN TIPM problem. They still acted like I was the first. I left the jeep with them. After 4 days, they recreated the problem, replaced the module for $583. Also I replaced the wipers that were torn to shreds from them going off. Spent over $600. Now, the horn doesn't work at all. Going back to the dealership this week.

We are the 3rd Jeep among our friends to have this identical issue - TIPM Failure! Fixes cost around $1200-1500 and take months to get parts in. Chrysler has done a recall but not on this particular jeep. Chrysler is being sued and is well aware of the problem. Chrysler needs to stand behind their products and make a recall for all vehicles affected!

For 2 months now I have had to keep my wiper fluid empty and my horn unplugged. The wipers, wiper fluid and horn would just go off at random and there was never a consistent time period that it would occur before stopping.

Pulling over and turning the car off did not stop the problem. My wiper blades are ruining again, because they constantly are running on a dry windshield.

I have had trouble getting the car fixed because of other priorities (wedding, new home, work travel), but on my way home from the airport last night, the headlights stopped working, which was quite scary on 95N in Philadelphia. I was able to discover the issue and use my high beams for the last part of the trip.

Car is getting repaired on Monday, and the part itself costs $538

My Jeep's power locks went out along with the rear view windshield wiper. I am a student walking out to my EXPENSIVE vehicle I JUST bought in the night and then I have to sit and fumble with keys because I don't have automatic locks until I purchase this $400 part (not including installation). Not cool :( The TIPM is recalled on the 2007 Wrangler and it should be recalled on this year too! Hopefully all you other Jeep mom and dads out there voice your complaint too.

Wrangler X

I just purchased a 2008 Jeep Wrangler about 2 months ago (Feb 4, 2015). After a week or so I started having problems getting the Jeep to crank. It would click, but not turn over. After a few tries, I could get it to eventually crank. I assumed it was a bad solenoid so I purchased and installed a new starter ($100). Problem NOT fixed.

I ended up taking it to a local repair shop (primarily a body shop) and they said that the problem was more than likely the transmission neutral safety switch, which is a $35 part. However, they stated that they could not install the part because it required the transmission pan to be dropped and they were not that knowledgeable on transmissions. So, I took it to a transmission shop (AAMCO) and they discovered (after 6 hours of diagnostics) that the problem was the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), which basically the primary fuse box under the hood. Luckily though, Aamco did me right and only charged me the initial $100 diagnostic fee which normally only covers hour one.

The next problem, however, is that the TIPM failure is a COMMON problem so the part is hard to find. Aamco was able to find one for me at the cost of $750, which included $100 shipping fee for overnight. The part can be found for $488 + shipping at http://www.factorychryslerparts.com/products/JEEP/2008/WRANGLER4x4--38L-V6-SMPI--4-Spd-Automatic-VLP-42RLE-TransX-RHD/MODULE-Totally-Integrated-Power/4492344/RL692236AI.html. I was not able to wait on the part so I paid the $750 for the one Aamco found. I was charged for 2 hours of labor and my total bill came to $1113.29.

I've read on some forums that owners have replaced the part themselves in 15 minutes or so. I opted to have a warranty so I paid Aamco to install. Either way, you;re looking a minimum $500 to correct the issue. There is currently a class action lawsuit against Chrysler for faulty TIPMs, but it only includes 2010-2014 Jeep Wranglers. http://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2014/chrysler-tipm-class-action-lawsuit.shtml.

These things are a piece of junk from day one. Dealer service is terrible and Chrysler doesn't seem to care at all. I really don't understand how they are in business. Sometimes it will crank and sometimes not. Then it shut off in traffic Friday and will not do anything. The TIPM has failed for which there is an ongoing lawsuit against Chrysler. This makes for a very dangerous situation when driving, as this module controls all electrical components and can cause things to come on even when the vehicle is not running.

20008 Jeep Liberty, Will not crank in cold weather, carried to a Jeep dealer for repair. The dealer ship is about an hour away after 4 trips and about $825.00 still will not crank when cold. The last time they assured me that the problem was a module #08035037 that they put on 1-26-2015, on 1-27-2015, the temp. was 32 and the "fixed" jeep did not crank. So another 2 hours to return it to the shop after I get it cranked. If I had wanted to have a trial and error repair I would have gone to a shade tree shop. Thinking a DEALER would have the knowledge as to HOW TOO FIX their car. Going back today if this does not fix it I am through with all Chrysler products. I hope no one else has had this problem. Thanks for listening.
