The death wobble is a terrifying experience, especially when it occurs for the first time. During the several times that it has occurred, I thought that a crash would be inevitable if I didn't stop the car right away. The steering is barely controllable and it gets to the point where you think that the car will swerve off the road or likely flip. I am not only worried about my own safety, but also the safety of other on the road. I have been lucky and have been able to stop the car in time. I am very hesitant to let anyone drive the vehicle because of this issue. If you are not expecting it, the wobble is truly terrifying. I cannot believe that a company has such poor design quality. This issue should be acknowledged by the company and a fix should be provided before someone gets hurt.

Update from Aug 16, 2016: I first experienced the death wobble in December 2015. I took the vehicle to the mechanic and after replacement of the steering damper the vehicle appeared more stable. The mechanic informed me that the OEM steering damper was broken and it appears to be a common problem as the design does not hold up. Unfortunately, the issue has resurfaced again and this time worse. I have to take the vehicle back to the mechanic. The company truly needs to take responsibility. Only makes me wonder what other components are lacking quality.

The Jeep Death Wobble. From my searches online about what I am experience, this is a well known problem long recognized for years, and not yet acknowledged by Jeep.

I have had new tires put on the Jeep and an alignment, but I still cannot drive above 55 miles per hour without the wobble occurring.

This is my fourth Wrangler since 1992, but my first experience with this problem. Other family members have had three Dodge cars. If Jeep does not provide a solution, I will not purchase another Chrysler Dodge Jeep product. EVER.

I bought this Jeep brand new. I was so happy! I had wanted one since I was 10, and even better I paid it off last year!!! Yeah I saved and saved to pay it off early, and now I own a piece of sh*t that has had death wobble for months. The track bar has been replaced, everything under the hood was tightened. The track bar was replace on Tuesday and today, sure enough hit the highway and death wobble!!! So I went immediately to Jeep and they said it's probably the steering (well that makes me feel really confident) so they went under and NOPE NOT JUST THE STEERING! Oh now, tire rods, steering, alignment, all upper and lower ball joints, to the tune of 2200 bucks, The track bar was $180 + $98 in labor.

This is unsafe. This is my daily driver and I transport my young child in it. I had no idea what was going on the first time it happened. I hit a small bump in the road and the wheel started shaking in my hand. I had to pull off the road to make it stop. It got progressively worse until the front end felt really loose and it was happening virtually every time I went over a bump of any size.

I read up on the problem on the Jeep forum and found out that it's common for my year of Jeep. Doesn't make it better but at least I knew what it was. I brought it into the dealer and they replace the stabilizer shock. It was fine for a few months but has started to happen again. My next appointment is to have to track bar looked at.

'Bought my wife a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited 4dr for Christmas.. took delivery Christmas Eve, 2012. She loves her Jeep. about 10,000 miles, 6 months later, she began complaining about an un-nerving situation which she described as a very severe vibration. There have been zero aftermarket modifications to the steering, suspension, anything. Stock as stock can get!!

Her old man was a bit dubious, until he met with some uneven pavement in a construction zone and almost lost the car, driver, everything to on-coming traffic .

Had checked at our dealership, who looked over all front end components and made certain everything was tightened. We were advised to get the front end alignment checked, as that would likely be the cause. The Jeep was slightly out of alignment, so we had that fixed. The problem diminished for a few months, but started to re-appear. Had alignment checked again, only very slightly out, but it was re-alignment again.

Since we have had several very serious instances which caused the driver to eventually pull off the road & come to a stop. The first very serious one was in April '14, the most recent two weeks ago, as my 28 year old engineer son was driving some folks to our daughters wedding at Fripp Island. Atop the highest span of the Savannah River Bridge leaving Savannah, he experienced what must be the worst episode. He & his Jeep mates thought they were going over the side into the River.!!!

Unfortunately , it seems that must need to happen to get the NTSB, NHC, Chrylser, or someone to issue a recall and a fix.

Please let's make some noise on this to get some traction on a fix! Thanks

Wheels shake when you hit hole or any uneven pavement. Currently in the shop for a head, I'm told the steering dampener was bad and it would be $250 to fix!
