Oil began to pool in the valley between the cylinder banks and eventually flow rearward and down onto the bell housing then drip onto the ground. Replaced the factory plastic unit with an aftermarket metal one.

Oil filter and cooler assembly/housing leak.

Very common and known problem with the 3.6L engine.

Engine oil leaking across the top of the engine and onto the top of the transmission where it drips down onto the ground. This is a faulty part design IMO and a very expensive labor cost to repair due to its location under the intake manifolds.

Smoke inhalation and polluting the environment is not à concern they say. A faulty design that causes oil leaks on the exhaust manifold causing oil spills on the roadways and off road trails + toxic smoke inhalation caused by the leak contacting the exhaust pipe and smoking out the cabin when driving any kind of distance will cause health affects no matter what the so called professionals say. This oil filter assembly is faulty, of bad design, and should be corrected. All Jeep owners need to know the problem and be reimbursed for the fix. I noticed this oil leak while 100 miles from my house, on my way across the country. After 3000 miles, I could taste the oil in my lungs. This is definitely a recallable issue due to health and environmental issues associated with waste oil burning and leaking into the environment.

Wrangler Unlimited Sport 3.6L

We discovered the oil filter assembly leak while at our local lube center, where they informed us that they thought it was a rear main seal. So after the oil change we drove the Jeep to the dealership and had them verify what the leak was from. Turns out it's from a cracked oil filter assembly (OFA). Then the dealership tells us this is a common issue and the parts are on back order. We've been having to drive the jeep for the last mouth keeping an eye on the oil level as well as cleaning the belly of the jeep with Gunk degreaser and hosing it off.

I was informed by the dealership that whoever changed the oil (Valvoline) over tightened the oil cap which broke the assembly. I've since contacted Valvoline in an effort for them to take responsibility for their mechanics error. They declined my claim. Now we learn that this part is on back order and/or being redesigned because this is a common issue since 2014, if not longer. Checking parts sites, the assembly and filters have bene discontinued. When is Jeep going to correct this issue and resubmit a new oil filter assembly for our one and only Jeep Wrangler?
