We were on vacation on our way to Anaheim California. Our whole family is in the 2013 NV 3500 driving in very busy Los Angeles traffic. My van never overheated but the average speed the lanes to the left were in excess of 110 miles an hour. So I think that contributed to my exhaust manifold melting the palladium honeycomb inside the exhaust manifold. FYI Nissan put 3 catalytic converters on their 5.6 liter V8 engines to meet EPA standards for all 50 states.

So the smaller cats get more heat than the main cat that sits under the van. The problem with the melted cat caused the van to run very poorly. It would idle fine but when the cat had pressure from the exhaust, it caused the van to hesitate, lose power and acted like something was choking out the engine. The only real positive after paying the bill ourselves was my wife called Nissan customer care and they agreed to cover 2/3 of the cost of replacing the intake manifold. So I only had to pay around $400.00 for the repair.
