CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2013-2017 Nissan Sentra has an expensive CVT transmission failure defect that shows up plainly in our complaint data.

In late 2019, the CVT defect was subject to a class action settlement. However the settlement only covers transmission repairs up to 7 years after purchase or 84,000 miles (whichever occurs first).

Because many owners commonly drive 20,000 miles/year or more, Sentra owners experiencing CVT transmission problems may find they are not covered by this settlement due to the mileage limitation.

Sentra S 1.8L DOHC

This is very dangerous situation. The vehicle does not do anything when the gas pedal is pushed and goes to the floor. This is while you are in transit already moving attempting to accelerate to move in to the flow of traffic and all of a sudden the pedal goes to the floor on you and the vehicle is no longer accelerating.

Sentra SL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 56,000 miles

While driving, the engine light suddenly popped on. Before having a chance to pull over, car would not accelerate over 10mph. Of course, I was driving in an area that was not familiar with me. Luckily husband had friend who had a body shop close by. Put car there. In the morning, they checked engine codes and one came up for throttle. Had to get car towed to Nissan. They said that it was one bad wire in wiring harness. Fix was $600 (plus tow fee of $250). Luckily Nissan did cover it. Problem has not occurred since, fingers crossed

MY 2013 NISSAN SENTRA IS GIVING ME MANY PROBLEMS, THE ECM AND THE SPEED CONTROL FAILS ON THE FREEWAY. ON THE STREETS THE CAR LOSES POWER OR DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILS IN 3RD GEAR, THE STOP LIGHT SWITCH FAILS TO TURN ON THE LIGHTS. IT LOOKS LIKE THESE CARS ARE LEMON, CHEEP CARS. THE CAR HAS ONLY 21000 MILES AND IS GIVING ME ALL THESE PROBLEMS.
