Well, I don't know about you, but I do like to go shopping with my kids and wife. So, since the cabin's interior is rather limited (SMALL), there do arise times when it is necessary to use the trunk compartment (hatchback).
Imagine our surprise when the key fob no longer activated the hatch release mechanism (unlocked the hatch) -- and realizing at that very same moment that there isn't a lock for a regular old fashioned -- low tech -- key to enable us to open it.
Not all is lost though. . .Nissan recognized this could eventually be a problem, so they provided rear seats that fold down so you can access the hatchback "emergency" release mechanism.
Once you have the trunk area loaded, it is suggested (well, we suggest) you close the hatchback so your packages don't go flying out the back when moving.
Oh, if you want to remove what you previously deposited in the trunk area, you now have crawl into the trunk (remember to lower the seats first) to remove your groceries and other goodies you've placed back there, until you've removed enough stuff to get to the "emergency" release mechanism and open the hatchback.
We've been told that this "little inconvenience" may cost somewhere between $400 to $500 to fix (have to do our part to support Japan's weak economy!).
There's more about this story, but it has to go in another report. . .
