This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I get an error message on the dash that says "service electronic braking system" and "service ABS-??. Ram dealer has stated that the truck needs a new ABS modular and ABS pump but the parts are on back order until February through Chrysler.
ABS control module is malfunctioning for the second time. Was replaced at approximately 25000 miles. Now is failing again at 48000 miles. ABS braking and traction control is affected.
Truck is showing service message "Service Electronic Braking System" and "Service Anti-Lock Brake System". Service message comes and goes constantly, chiming and making cruise control unusable. Several times I have almost had a collision on the interstate because the vehicle will drop out of cruise control expectantly. I have researched the issue and the required replacement parts are on national back order until Jan/Feb of 2024. So not only do I have to listen to the dang chiming noise, I don't have fully functioning ABS or Traction Control. This is a serious issue that RAM needs to deal with. I know an investigation is underway already: Preliminary Evaluation PE22-012. Please add my complaint to the growing list of RAM owners facing this serious issue.
Anti Lock Brake code appearing while driving. Have had the Anti lock brake module replaced once before. This is a common issue in 2018 models and Ram refuses to address.
My original ABS HCU pump has been replaced 2 times, and now 11 months later it needs a 3rd one. First one went at 60K, second one 93K, 3rd one at 120K and now I do not have ABS, Traction control or cruise control.
The ABS module and/or HCU on my truck is bad causing me to lose ABS functionality. The ABS light comes on and a tone alerts me to the problem. This normally happens randomly, and the problem comes and goes. The cost to repair looks to be around $1600 from the dealer. With this being such a safety issue, it seems reasonable for a recall to be put into place to address the issue. The issue is further complicated because there is a new and improved version of these parts, but the new parts have been on backorder.
Service braking locking system. Intermittent ping of of abs/ebs traction control display lights. Cruise control will not work and shut off when this has been activated.
My abs keeps going on and off repeatedly. This is what I have read in many forums. I don't understand why there hasn't been a recall for the part. The module is flawed and I believe there is a class action lawsuit. Apparently there is a back order until 2024 and I do not wish to put the same broken part in my $70,000 truck! I just want my truck fixed.
For the third time in 37000 miles the abs system including ABS system and electronic brake system has failed. This has been repaired around 15000 miles and recently at 35000 and it went out again at 37000 miles. Didn't last 2500 miles after last repair. When this happens trailer brakes quit functioning and cruise control also quits working as well as every few minutes the system gives you a continuous warning chime. From checki9ng a few web sites this seems to be an on going problem on the 2018 trucks mostly but a few 17s. Last info I have is parts are not avail for repairs until at least 2/24 and then only maybe. The truck is unsafe to drive especially when towing a larger trailer. This needs to be made a recall for safety concerns. I had to trade off my truck due to how I use it and no expectation for a repair time or date.
My ABS Module and Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) Part Number 68143491AA seems to have failed and it seems as it is a very common problem which needs to be addressed by RAM. My ABS is not working, my traction control is not working, and my cruise control is not working. While I drive it constantly goes on and off and chimes over and over and over. This is VERY dangerous to not have the braking or traction control not working and is putting me and my family in danger. This needs to be a recall. Not to mention the part that needs to be replaced is on national backorder and you can't even get it. Please help.
ABS warning lights came on took the truck back to the dealer (approx 54000 miles) replaced abs pump unit and would not cover under warranty as it was out due to miles. Now again at 108000 I am getting abs warning and electronic brake system warning This is clearly a repetitive brake safety issue and a recall should be enacted
In October 2012, my 2018 Ram 2500 had issues with the brake module and ABS system. The truck had 49000 miles when the system intermittently displayed messages to service ABS system. A trusted local mechanic checked and found a service bulletin about the issue. I had him replace the brake module and master cylinder. I then had a Chrysler dealer reprogram the module. My costs was approximately 800 dollars. Now it is summer of 2023 with 65000 miles and the same issue is occurring. I think it is time for Fiat Chrysler America to step up and make these repairs. It is dangerous to have this situation. It affects cruise control, four wheel drive, and of course negates having ABS. I need this truck and cannot afford to park it.
