The -??Service Electronic Brake System-?? and -??Service Antilock Brake System-?? messages with associated lights and audio appear intermittently and frequently. This condition happens somewhat randomly regardless of speed or road conditions. This issue will also cause the cruise control to shut off. After taking the truck to the dealer and running a diagnostic, the technician claims it is the ABS pump and Hydraulic Control Unit. The technician said it is a known issue and the parts are back ordered.
My ABS and HCU are throwing codes and my local RAM dealership says this is a common issue. I went in October 2022 and they said at that time parts weren't coming in until February 2023. I called today and they can't say a date. I've read mainly articles online and this seems common. My truck is a 2018 and just went over 50,000 miles when this started occurring. My dealership won't state if this is covered under warranty, I believe this should be under drivetrain. Feel free to call me [XXX]. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
I saw article that the 2018 Ram 2500 trucks are under investigation for poor brakes. That was the 1st thing I noticed on my truck. I had a 2010 Dodge Ram the same model and had better brakes. My wife was driving it at the speed limit and the light turned yellow and by the time it stopped she was in the middle of the intersection. The truck stops better when pulling our 11,000 lb RV only because the trailer is doing the stopping. I usually drive the truck and I have to be very aware of my following distance because it just doesn-??t stop like I feel it should. We mostly use the truck for camping and only have about 26K miles on it. I agree the truck is heavy, but it should still have adequate brakes.
The anti lock brake system frequently turns off and activates warning lights for it. Since the truck is used to pull loaded trailers I feel this is a safety issue since you can not depend on the brake system to function as abs or it suddenly fails and goes to manual only. Repair facility said code calls for the abs pump to be replaced but the part isn't available due to a back order of almost 800 units as of November 2022.
Lost braking power. Anti-Lock brakes quit working. Lost cruise control. Unable to use anti-lock brakes. Brakes locked when stopping. Flashing dash alarm saying service ABS/Electronic Braking System. All occurring without reason, just randomly. This puts my safety and the safety of others at risk as the brakes lock up when depressed at times as well as loss of braking power.

Received warning of ABS and ESB malfunction as noted in the recent investigation PE22012. This malfunction occured while driving in rain and poor weather conditions, increasing the risk of safety of occupants. Warning indicators appeared and have appeared in the days and weeks since first occurrence but are not always on. Awaiting appointment for inspection at dealer service center.
Rear Anti lock brake system light came on along with the traction control light at the same time. Quick google search and I found that this is a known issue with this truck and is being evaluated for a recall. I would like to know if this is in fact a known issue that the manufacturer is aware of and if there is any relief for repair from the manufacturer as well.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH, the braking system malfunctioned causing the brake pedal to extend to the floorboard while depressed, and the vehicle would not immediately stop. During the failure, the parking brake was used to slow the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the brake line had failed causing brake fluid to leak from the vehicle. The brake line was replaced, and the vehicle was fixed. In addition, later while driving, the ABS warning light was blinking off and on. The dealer diagnosed that the ABS module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and towing a trailer, the ABS warning light illuminated. The vehicle failed to stop immediately with an extended braking distance while the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure occurred only while towing a trailer. The contact stated that another time the trailer brakes overheated while braking system on the vehicle failed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Have 52000 miles on 2018 ram 2500 when the "Check Electronic brake System " appeared on dash and ABS became inoperable. Went to dealer and was told i needed to change Hydraulic Control Unit and it was on back order until Jan 23rd 2023. was Told that instead of a Proportioning valve for the rear the HCU controls Brake pressure to rear brakes and with it inoperable the Rear brakes have a potential to lock up quicker when braking so i have parked the vehicle. symptoms occured about 800 miles ago.
Brakes seem to be intermittent. Check Electric Brake warning comes on every time you start the truck and has shutdown the ABS and cruise control options. This is a very big problem if you research it on the internet on Ram and Mopar forums.
I found there is an investigation going on with 2017/2018 year trucks of my model. Early 2019 my truck threw warning lights that my brakes were out while I was driving. Testing them they seemed to work alright still but manage to get it to the dealer. At the dealer they replaced the HCU and sense then I haven't had any issues. The truck was s under warranty so I didn't pay anything out of pocket.
Was driving on expressway exit ramp trying to come to a stop and the brakes hesitated and then locked up, at the same time the traction control and abs light came on. Traction control and abs lights still come on months later and problems with breaking are still there. Took to local shop to get fixed and they told me abs module and hcu pump are bad. Parts are not available thru mopar or aftermarket.
Intermittent failure of the electronic braking system. Audible Warning tone and indication "Service Electronic Braking System" followed by "Service antilock braking system" experienced intermittently. The multiple warnings automatically disabled the antilock brakes, stability control, and cruise control as well as producing annoying audible tone. This failure originally began occurring in August 2020 and was taken to the local Ram dealer in September 2020 when it was diagnosed as a defective 68143491aa hydraulic control unit module. After a three week lead time, the module was replaced under warranty with 12116 miles on the vehicle and the problem disappeared. Two years later in July 2022, the same warnings began intermittently with the same disabling safety issues at 24000 miles. On 10/19/2022, the Ram dealer diagnosed the problem as "Abs Control Module 68143491aa Has Internal Short. Part Is On Backorder With No Eta". I have repeatedly checked on the status of the part with the Ram dealer resulting in the same "Backorder with No ETA" response. In November 2022, I filed a formal complaint with Ram Cares. They have provided the same response "Unplanned resource requirement resulting in supply disruption. No firm ETA to provide at this time. Working to improve". This failure is a safety issue, not just an inconvenience and annoyance. My Ram 2500 is periodically used to haul a 10000lb trailer. The sudden loss of cruise control, stability control, and antilock brakes could cause and accident resulting in property damage and injury or death.
1. ABS Module and ABS Pump have malfunctioned, parts have been backordered for months with no ETA. 2. The problem has been verified by an independent service center 3. Has not been inspected by anyone else. 4. ABS light and Traction Control light come on intermittently.
ABS system malfunctioning, -??service electronic braking system-?? and -??service abs-?? messages flashing continuously while driving. Known issue among Ram. Was quoted $1000 to repair ABS module.
ABS system failure. Dealer informed me that brake fluid leaked through manifold into the computer module causing ABS system failure. Warning light on dashboard says ABS traction control warning, electric braking system warning.
