WRX Limited 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 62,000 miles

I bought this pre-owned 2019 Subaru WRX Limited less than a year ago with 41,000 miles. Just the other day while driving home the engine starts knocking really loud, thankfully I wasn't too far from home. The next day I have the car towed to the dealership only to find out that the engine has failed and that I'm out of the factory warranty by 2,000 miles. I spent $116.00 for diagnostic, $189.00 to have it towed. Diagnostic results: Engine failure, all fluids are within maximum level as needed.

I asked if they could make an exception on the Factory Warranty since we were only 2,000 miles over the 60,000 and we were told NO. After going on the web to do a little research of my own, I find that this is an ongoing problem with these models and found a bunch unhappy 2019 Subaru customers having the same issue. Supposedly Subaru had fixed the problem after settling a lawsuit for earlier models 2008-2018 and agreed to up the factory warranty to 100,000 miles. Now I'm stuck with a car that over all looks brand new, but the engine is dead.

I paid $37,000 in 2022, not even a year ago and now I'm facing having to sell it as is and take a loss or spending from $8,000 to $10,000 to fix it. I have sent a complaint to Subaru of America's Corporate office to make an exception and honor the 60,000 mile Factory Warranty being that is only 2000 miles over and that they are aware that this is an ongoing problem. Hopefully I hear back from someone. I will keep you posted.

WRX 2.0L

  • Manual transmission
  • 7,450 miles

A new car with only 7500 miles and the motor went. Dealer holding me responsible until they investigate to see if it was driver's error.

Wrong.

6 weeks later they tell me it was engine failure due to lack of oil. There were no apologies from them and 2 months later, I go pick up the car and it has damage to the paint and plastics. They state that due to being here so long it's bound to happen. Wow.

Well, I picked up the car to find out it wasn't running properly and had a bad misfire. I was told to drive it for a few thousand miles and break in the new motor. It still was misfiring and also had problems at wide open throttle. Still today, the problem is unsolved and I'm going after SOA legally.
