Under ideal nighttime road conditions (dry road and clear visibility), I swerved to avoid a collision with another vehicle on the freeway while traveling about 65 miles per hour. I missed hitting the other car, but when I applied the brakes, they locked up and put the car into a skid from which there was no recovering. The car spun out and came to rest after colliding with the center divider twice. The brakes should not have locked up, as this car is equipped with an antilock brake system (ABS). If the ABS had worked properly, I would have been able to maintain control of the vehicle and avoided the spin and contact with the center divider.
My brakes seamed to be failing brake light keeps coming on. Took to dealer June 2003 said no problem keep hearing squeaking noise in back. Now brakes grinding, has 22500 miles 2003 Toyota Corolla le had front brakes and rotors replaced 09-30-2003 still hearing squeaking noise in back. Said no problem with back brake S, check engine light keeps coming on. Had checked early 2003, said no problem. Seems to have problem with steering wheel making strange noise when turning.
When the brakes are applied there is a delay before the vehicle will stop. Cause is unknown. On December 2003 consumer had a accident brake took longer to stop. Dealer notified.
