We bought the car new in April of 2013. After about 2-3 months we noticed the burnt knob on the air outlet selector knob. We don't smoke nor has anyone been in the car that smoked. We have no idea how the knob could have melted the way it did. We have a chemist friend who feels it was a short from the inside of the unit. Also, a mechanic thought it looked like a short.
We have complained at least 3 times to the dealer and we opened a case with Toyota. They denied it was a Toyota problem but we know we didn't cause the burn. We have heard from other mechanics that this problem has happened with Toyotas in the past (2008) but the bottom line is the knob is burnt, we didn't cause it, Toyota has refused to fix it. It was a brand new car.
