I have owned other used Toyota's in the last 3 years and they are great! This one does use oil but the differentials seals leak and it sure looks like a common problem after talking to people and looking online!

I came to purchase Toyota's become of how well they seemed to be built. I can't afford to purchase new for I am disabled. This is why I came to purchase used. I can't afford to have the dealer fix it at the prices they change. I am going to see what it cost to have someone else repair it. Any help or suggestion would be helpful. I guess what I can't believe is that Toyota has not recalled them!

It appears that a part that was recalled by Toyota and it was redesigned and upgraded on the cars has failed. When the rear heats up and you make a turn and put torque on the rear you'll get a hammering sound until you go straight. Or if you park and then back up it will make a loud popping sound or like someone took a mallet and hit the rear really hard. So for a mere 1300.00 bucks for the part only, and about 4 hours of labor at 90.00 bucks will fix the problem. But the driveshaft is also making noise because a bearing in the middle of the 2 drive shafts is not a separate part. So you have to buy the whole drive shaft at a small cost of 995.99 for it and 2 hours of labor (180.00 bucks) to install it. So the dealer wants 1300.00 + 995.99 + 540.00 (that's rear end part, drive shaft and labor) a total of 2835.99 plus tax. So they want from me roughly 3200.00 to repair it all. But when the service manager called me (because he thinks I'm stupid and I'm not going to check around about parts costs) and said that for 3300.00 plus 500.00 in labor he can get the car fixed. But he was going to get Toyota to eat the labor and be a nice guy and get the price down to around 3300.00. So they're trying to rip me off for about 800.00 extra bucks. Thank you Toyota dealership.
