Bought the '09 used but only 3 years old with 38,000 miles. It looked great. I noticed paint flaking off the roof, just in front of the roof rack by 2013. By 2015 the majority of the roof was flaking to the entire back end. By 2017 I noticed flaking on the structural side beams (between the front window and front seat windows). It has low mileage and should last another 5 years, at least, but for trade in value, I've been told I'd not get more that $4,500 for a trade-in so I'm looking for painting options. Now I find out that Toyota has a history of bad paint jobs for this model from 2009-2013 (how lucky can I be) and Toyota has taken no responsibility for this, even though it's been discovered that the RAV4s had faulty primer. I've gotten 'touch up' estimates of $1,100 and full paint restorations of $6,500. And while I enjoy my RAV, I'm not sure another Toyota is in my future. What else don't I know???
