I love my Rav4 2010 but for the past months it's been making a horrible howling sound when I turn on the engine. I thought it could be the starter or the timing belt. I had an oil etc. change hoping that it was just low on some kind of oil.
I have taken it to three repair shops, the mechanics reported a (Tensioner) piston that is inside the motor apparently controls the timing belt that has some sensor? Anyways, my poor Rav4 sounds as if she's taking a hard breath to turn on the motor.
The noise happens every time and anytime I turn the ignition switch on, whether I just parked it for a quick moment or for overnight. The sound is like a screeching sound or howling sound.
My mechanic told me he would have to open up the motor in order to replace this piston, and it is a COSTLY repair.
